I have the same truck. As for the auto stop/start. I just turn it off the moment I start the engine.

No hate from me. Solid powertrain especially since Ram gave up on internally sourced transmissions and just procured them from ZF.

My next truck will be another Ram w/ the hemi when they start to make em again. I’m gonna wait a year after the re-launch of the hemi to make sure they get the bugs worked out with the new electrical system.
It will be the same powertrain as the one you have, but different electrical architecture. So the HEMI tick is still possible, although fairly unlikely.
If I wanted a near bulletproof motor from Ram, I’d get the 3.6L Pentastar and just be patient with acceleration. They worked out all the bugs with that engine like 10 years ago. They get a lot of abuse in work trucks and work vans.

GM deserves what they get. Having worlds of trouble with AFM with 8 AFM lifters should have been the time to rethink things......but what do they do? They double down literally, they start building engines with 16 AFM lifters instead of 8. Makes shitloads of sense, doesn't it?

Lifters are just the first thing that fails because of a lack of oil pressure. The design issue with the GM and Ford V8s that leads to lifter failure is caused by the oiling system. The lifters need good clean oil and good pressure. When they get that, failures are pretty rare.
The newer L84 5.3L motors have actually been far more reliable (despite having more collapsible lifters) since they don’t have the bullshite variable displacement oil pump anymore. They actually went back to an oil pump that looks like the one from the old Vortec motors.
The GM 5.3L V8s from 2015-2021 or so had a variable displacement oil pump to save fuel. About half of the 2022-2023 models did too. Ford’s new 7.3L gas V8 has a variable displacement oil pump as well. Failed lifters is what they all have in common, especially if there are a lot of idle hours.
I think the 6.2L GM V8 has always had a variable oil pump. And seriously think that this is partially why it’s been a far less reliable engine than the 5.3L, especially now that the 5.3L has switched away from the variable displacement pump.
I’d have no concerns with the new L84 5.3L engine. I would avoid the 6.2L GM V8 as well as the 6.8L and 7.3L gasoline Ford V8s….and all for the exact same reason.
If you have an L83 5.3L V8 from 5-6 years ago….the oil pump from the L84 should fit. Swapping it out will save you a lot of lifter trouble later. I don’t know if it fits to the 6.2L block though.

GM switching away from the variable displacement oil pump with the L84 was a good move and the 5.3L is a great engine for it - better than the 5.3L L83. Probably better than the LY5 5.3L too.
Everyone complains about lifters but the real cause was always the oil pumps that were designed to use less energy and save fuel. They also pumped less oil at times, which is eventually a big issue when engine oil has to supply hydraulic pressure to actuate valve lifters.
GM reverted back to the older pumps on the 5.3L engine and the lifter problems evaporated. Because of that, the newer 5.3L V8s are probably in my top 3 favorite truck engines again.
I still think these manufacturers shouldn’t spec 0w-20 oil but that’s an easy problem to solve.

Hell, I’ll take just having Toyota bring back the V6 in the Tacoma.

That Ram turn dial shifter is retarded

But you have to agree the pre 2007 5.3[s never had lifter problems even with questionable oil with the exception of the lifter roller and cam.

It might just be internet rumor but over on GMForum lots of rumbling that the 5.3 and 6.2 are gone in the next generation. Back to the 5.8 and a variant of the 6.6 in the 2500 series.

The 2016 F150 with a 5.0 V-8 had an intake manifold design defect. It would trigger a check engine light on the dashboard, and the only fix was to replace the manifold.
After receiving my 3rd manifold in 2.5 years, I traded the truck for a Chevy. I liked the Ford, but while it was an inconvenient repair when under warranty, it was damned expensive once the warranty ended. 2 days, and at least $1,500 if out of warranty.
That experience left a bad taste when it comes to Fords, so I've strenuously avoided them since that time.

The 5.0 is the last motor being offered that I want. Unfortunately the F150 have tons of problems with everything else on the truck.
I’ve experienced none of these. What I have experienced is living room comfort everywhere I go! F150 is basically a Lincoln Continental and I love it.

A tuned up 5.3 without AFM would be awesome.
Towed like a champ, got over 20 mpg for mixed city/highway driving on regular gas. Drove and rode like a champ. Wonderful vehicle.
$30k out the door from Ross Downing.

I sold my 01 with 287K and never had an issue with it.

I had a 95 Silverado with 150k on it that I abused and never had a single issue with that motor

These machines look so awesome if they are cared for properly over the years.
I’m never getting rid of mine and really want to buy an older used one with limited miles.
