To just c/p my MT post this morning:

We look fairly bad either way. Worst case is Trump is straight up lying. Best case is we are back in tariff era TACO territory in which Trump makes a clear ultimatum (if the Strait isn’t completely open in 48 hours, we attack) and then pretends as though he won something as he stands there with egg on his face crowing about how we aren’t going to attack because Iran is talking to us about opening the Strait. Now, just like with the tariff buffoonery, I’m glad he’s backing down, but god damn the buffoonery is tiresome.

I think he tried to play hardball yesterday and the markets didn't respond the way he hoped. Bombing their infrastructure destroys longterm production and creates a problem for a decade.

This morning someone got to him and made him walk it back. To not sound weak he made it rosier than it actually is.

Yea, Iran's threat.

Irans threat worked, not Trumps.

This is like a road rage incident between a rich investment banker(US) and a welfare queen(Iran). The investment banker talks a big game but the risk is high and in the back of their mind there is a lot of stuff that isn’t worth it. On the flip side, that welfare queen is playing with house money because she has nothing to lose.

The underlying problem is the lack of a plan or any coherent policy. Trump 2.0 is the dog that caught up to the mail truck. Trump 1.0 was a pretty good term in retrospect that fit within the normal bounds of a presidency (minus Covid).

I think this is great news. Sucks that it was met with news that POTUS killed a compromise on TSA funding.

Yep. Threatening to bomb a country you are already bombing doesn't really escalate the threat.

5 days is just a breather for the market to recover before finishing the job next week. I expect the US to completely take over Hormusz with threats to destroy every power plant Iran has for every tanker that gets hit by a missile.

Iran is surrounded on every side by enemies. They will be forced into capitulation.

Hmm, that's odd. I don't see any of my liberal friends on social media mentioning this.

Are we going to help rebuild those power plants?

Because if not, destroying it all and leaving the Iranian people, whom we're supposedly trying to help, in the dark for a year plus isn't going to endear itself to a new Iranian government taking over that doesn't continue to hate us like we're the Great Satan.

Is a compromise not a compromise when both sides agree?

Update as of 9AM Central Time:

WTI now down $9.
Brent down $11.
Natural gas down 14 cents, back to sub $3 for first time since March 18th.

Waha Hub spot price for natural gas, out in West Texas, appears to be NEGATIVE $4/MMBtu.

This is surprising for me. Warmer weather has curbed some demand though. Seems like a logistical problem moving the fuel that is causing a backup.

Thune, allegedly from an anonymous source, wants to pass to punt to the House and remove pill with reconciliation.

Trump is saying just no.

So your "compromise" is Trump plays hardball, or the Dems look like they get a win, only for the GOP to adjust the bill to exactly their specifications

So it is either GOP wins, or Dems lose.

That is the compromise.

So I reiterate:

compromise

Of course it will take months for the gas prices to come down at the station. Funny how that works

The Iranian govt won’t get better till there’s internal regime change.

Destroying all infrastructure is a good way to bring that about.
