Civil servants in Brazil say they have discovered the world's oldest person – a 131-year-old father-of-three living with a wife 69 years his junior. The Guinness Book of Records recognises 112-year-old Yasutaro Koide from Japan as the oldest person alive. And Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment, who died aged 122 in 1997, holds the record for the world's longest living person. But social security workers in Acre in north Brazil today caused a stir by publishing photographs of Joao Coelho de Souza alongside a birth certificate dated March 10, 1884.

The birth certificate makes use of some very modern looking font. Ahead of their time, I guess.

The birth certificate isn't from 1884....it just has that noted as his birth year. At the bottom you can see "11 October 1974" and "18 October 2007."

I'm not doubting the timeline. I've never seen Comic Sans font on any official government docs before.

Are they sure he's still alive? That picture isn't very convincing.

My great grandma lived until she was 102. Yeah she looked old, but not that old. You could really tell by the way she moved. She drank coffee all day, and would spill most out of the cup before she could drink it. She'd always have huge long ashes on her cigs because she would drop them if she tried to ash them.

People age differently. I have one grandma that is 89 and has been in the bed for basically 5 or 7 years. My other grandma is 84 and still works 40 hours a week at Dillards. No doubt she'll make a bill

I did think that too. Hell, even my GF's old Argentinian passport looked more official and that country is just as dysfunctional.
