Fox news article sort of got into how the black box works in terms of transmitting location. Can those things be shut off?

yes and no. If they are located they can be manually unplugged, but there isn't a switch in the cockpit that can do it. On the ground though... yes it's possible.

Yeah, unless it was some kind of device that just pulverized the plane, pieces should be visible. And if over green jungle canopy, certainly something would be seen with all of the air coverage.

Basically, 40 ships and 36 aircraft (all presumably state-of-the-art) from 10 countries around the world, plus the countless commercial planes and boats in the area, have been unable to find a Boeing 777 in an area roughly the size of New Mexico [The entire Gulf of Thailand is 124,000 square miles per Wikipedia, and, of course, they're not even searching the entire Gulf] over a period of three days?. . . I'm not buying it. It's hard to imagine the plane is actually there. . . I'm really having a hard time understanding all this. How can it possibly be lost?!

Well it got put on, but removed prior to departure. Unless I'm mistaken.

that is correct. 5 people checked their luggage but never showed up at the gate to board the plane and their luggage was removed from the plane before take off.

I'm trying not to sound like an idiot, but it's all so incomprehensible! Where is this fricking plane?! I'm starting to obsess over every new news article.

it really is mind boggling.

My thought is that it deviated way off course and they're not looking in the right area.

We may never know Patrick. I think it's vibrating somewhere in the astral plane now.

What is the amount of time between the last transmission and ATC next attempt to contact and fail to receive a response?

This could give you a radius of possibilities at that point of where it went down within the sea.

Odd situation. I fly almost every week so this definitely weirds me out a bit.

This is what I read, per fox news. I dont understand much of it, but it looks like they lonst contact with it a little less than an hour into flight, if I read that right?

These are the moments when the OT somehow puts the story together faster than the rest of the world.

It was the Rapture. God took the plane too.

Really wondering wtf is going on at this point.

Are there strong currents in that Gulf? Could it have went down further away from where they expect and then swept even further by the current? Only explanation as to why it can't be found IMO. Now as for WHY it went down, that's for another day.

Just want them to find it first.
