So the plane goes up 45,000 ft, kills the passengers while the pilots have on oxygen.
They bring it back down and fly 7 hours to the planned rendezvous point.

Different endgame. They wanted chaos and to make the last few minutes of the passengers lives as miserable as possible in 911
In this case, it seems they needed to incapacitate the passengers to complete the mission

Was there reports of a plane climbing to 45k?

Clean and easy if the pilots are in on it.

If that is the case, is that a peaceful death for the passengers or do they suffocate and struggle? Hope it was peaceful if it did happen?

Sounds like it... Also, they may have had to kill off the passengers to get access to shut off the other equipment. Feared having to fight them or arise suspicion shutting off other equipment.
Events as I recall:
Change airspace ("Goodnight")
Transponder Goes Off
Climb to 45k and then back down to 22k
Secondary Equipment goes off (12m after transponder goes off)

Fully fueled, the plane has a range of 9,000 - 11,000 miles - WHICH means that from Yemen, Europe and the entire East Coast of the US is in range.
I'd put Israel on the top of this list. I'm sure they are following this pretty closely

That's it right there. These guys just want a plane. Don't care about the passengers, it seems....

Those pings are said to be unreliable as it relates to altitude though.
Could have gone to 45K, but may not have. As has been mentioned, it wouldn't have HAD to go that high to get he same result.

Makes you wonder why the 9/11 hijackers didn't attempt to get to a high altitude to kill the rest of the passengers. They probably didn't have enough expertise to fly the plane at those altitudes.

There was talk of it happening, but it was also stated that the data pointing to this was pretty unreliable.
So once again a half assed piece of data in this story is being thrown around as a hard fact.

More speculation.
More speculation.
What if there are two planes commandeered? It's been reported that a plane that is in close vicinity of another plane can appear as one blip on radar.
one plane (legit route to kasazkstan) adjusts its flight to allow the obviously diverted 370 to follow closely.
If this plane flew to one of these central Asian/Eurasian countries, then you have to consider the thought that this could be meant for for Russia.
Obvious and growing anti Russian sentiment in these Eurasian and central Asian countries. Dissimilar factions have banded together along with terrorists. Lots of terrorists in this region . Access to blackmarket Soviet era warheads?

That would put the plane in the range of the Middle East.
For a plan, this complex, it makes sense they had a landing area set up prior - one that could HIDE the plane and REFUEL it.
It is only logical

As said before, if this was a movie, it would be beyond laughable. The possibilities are endless right now which is creepy as frick

Who knows anything about the separatist group in Western China that are believed to have been behind the knife attacks at the train station a couple weeks ago?
One of my first thoughts was that group was pretty suspicious. I don't have a clue how to spell their name, I only hear a NPR interview with a Cal-Berkeley professor that has studied them for 30 years or so. He called them "weegars" (phonetically) They're muslim, turk speaking, and live in that northern zone where the plane is most likely thought to be in.

Better question, is how does air travel change now? What processes/Procedures will be put into place to avoid rogue pilots being able to do this?

Yea because the 777 hard deck is 43k, going above that would cause the aircraft to stall. It would take about 20k of descent to recover. While it may be likely based on the pilots experience, theres no reason to go that high to kill the crew. Any altitude above 16k will work.

Good point. 9/11 changed a lot of procedures. I'm sure this will too, at least for international flights

You know if there were any Israeli's on that plane it'd have been found by sundown.

Uighurs, they claimed responsibility days ago and no one took them seriously.

A shadowy group called the Chinese Martyrs’ Brigade has claimed responsibility for the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 — but officials were skeptical and said the claim could be a hoax.
The group — unheard of before now — on Sunday sent an email to journalists across China that read: “You kill one of our clan, we will kill 100 of you as pay back,” but the message provided no details of what brought the flight down.

Only if another plane disappears now, would we prove this is terrorist act.
