The gradient at 850 is impressive too. Cells are training along it right now.

Friend in Chattanooga reported all snow thanks to a convective cell that passed over. They're back over to a mix now.

Yep, I'm stuck in limbo where I am. Will eventually get snow, but it is just a light mix right now.

Idk how to explain ours, originally just sleet. Heavy sleet. Then light sleet. Then sort of a mix that still seemed to mostly be sleet but looks and feels like snow on the ground then it pretty much quit for a bit now we have the heaviest, purest snow we have had

I see your location. Unfortunately, you're far enough south to flirt with sleet for the entire storm. You'll likely see precipitation change from all snow to a snow/sleet mix and then back again several times as precipitation rates vary. If you want more snow, dynamic cooling will be your friend here. You'll need more consistently heavy precipitation which results from stronger ascent. Stronger ascent cools the atmosphere aloft, which will help cut back the layer of warmer temperatures that's located above you (which is giving you the sleet)

NWS Shreveport
@NWSShreveport

Concern is growing across the area circled in pink as snow/sleet rates are increasing based on radar returns over the last 1-2 hours. Road cams in El Dorado showing snow/sleet accumulation due to the higher radar returns training over the same locations.

AT&T Uverse TV has shite the bed for a whole bunch of people, myself included, tonight. Looks like I'll be hitting the YouTube TV free trial in the morning if it is still out.

I know, but you're tweeting, anyway......at least throw a local station or your area NWS office in there. All they want is a Spann retweet.

Some weather folks don't like to interact with the general public whether that be local stations or NWS offices

NWS Shreveport wound up retweeting Spann's tweet earlier

It really annoys me that not all WFOs do regular soundings. The closest observed sounding we have to the area of most interest is from the Nashville office. Huntsville doesn't do them, and neither does Memphis. That would be helpful right now. Modeled soundings are okay, but an observed sounding from around 00z would help a whole lot more.

It would be nice. Especially when severe weather is imminent! I know that not every WFO launches soundings because of the cost.

Sometimes, on higher-end severe days, UA Huntsville launches them. They share any and all they launch with NWS Huntsville, of course.

I woke up to about 6" (TWSS), with another 3-4" still to come. Currently 10 degrees. We've had crazy snow ratios overnight. 15:1, at least. Really high ratio for these parts.

Probably a broken fiber heading back to their network operations center.

I never understood the logic of this if one spoke is broken, then all service is lost.

I can remember a few years ago this happened to Comcast in Houma, everything was back fed to their centralized headend, one fiber was cut I think around Shreveport or LaPlace and all local channels, cable channels and internet was out for 36-48 hours. It was a large fiber cable that had several fibers that needed resplicing.

The same is true for other providers like Charter. One time I went to Charter’s headend in Thibodaux. It was a large building just outside Thibodaux where they had rack after rack of equipment to manage all the channels carried on the system. Now most of that equipment was taken out some due virtualization and smaller equipment, but the bulk of the operation was relocated to its other hub in Slidell.

It’s 11 degrees here and sleeting. Honestly when it started back up I think it was raining. What kind of shite is that.
