High resolution NAM model coming in a bit heavier on the freezing rain accumulations for south LA.

SUNDAY NIGHT NOTES: Snow (with some sleet) continues over the western half of the Tennessee Valley this evening, and bridges are becoming slick and icy. A winter storm warning remains in effect through tomorrow night for areas north of a line from Winfield to Cullman to Fort Payne.
Highest snow amounts will be along and north of the Tennessee River, where over two inches is likely. A few places could see 4-5 inch totals.
To the south, a winter weather advisory is in effect down to Linden, Selma, Clanton, Sylacauga, and Ranburne. This is where freezing rain/drizzle will likely create icy spots on bridges late tomorrow and tomorrow night.
Please see the attached maps for specific snow/ice amounts, and the timing.
The Arctic cold is the other big story; most of North Alabama will stay below freezing Tuesday, and by daybreak Wednesday temperatures will drop into the 5-15 degree range. Upper teens are likely all the way down to the Gulf Coast.

If I had to drive to NOLA for Tuesday afternoon flight, what time would be better to drive to NOLA? I'm planning on leaving at 6PM tomorrow and stay overnight at a hotel by airport.
Cannot afford to not make the flight.

Given the myriad of choices of where your departure city is located this is a tough question to answer.

Big temperature gradient across the deep south. Using I-10... 30° in west Houston, 56° in Lake Charles as of 7:53 pm. 12° and light snow at DFW. Freezing above the line, above freezing below it. Freezing line gradually moving SE.

That's why I'm out here asking for help. I cannot make the decision. My current decision is to leave at 5-6PM from Bluebonnet and get to hotel close to airport for overnight stay.

Freezing rain sets in by 6 pm in BR. If you can move it up a few hours it would be better safe than sorry since you're staying in New Orleans overnight anyways.

I would probably leave a little earlier because you will be driving over a lot of elevated road ways on I-10 which the DOTD may shut down.

Close, Browntown and Pistol Hill.

3 to be safe in the event there is a traffic accident.

Do you have to work tomorrow? You can check into motels by 3 pm. I'd just leave earlier and not have to worry about anything.

It's my parents that are visiting from India. They are ready to get home and homesick. I will probably leave and check in to hotel. Better safe than sorry

We haven't tracked a freezing line around here since December 2022.

I know, but you're tweeting, anyway......at least throw a local station or your area NWS office in there. All they want is a Spann retweet.

I'm from very south Louisiana .. how can you tell if a road is salted from Waze? Can you literally see it .. like is it just a shaded area??
No, but you can get a good idea of it if you're looking at traffic cameras and see one roadway covered in ice and snow next to one that is not (process of elimination).

Great storm for Nashville and Memphis.
And very painful for places like northern Mississippi where sleet will fall while surface temperatures hold in the 10s and low 20s. That warm nose aloft is stout.
