Teachers still have to report to work, from what I understand. Students are the ones who stay home.

I can tell you for certain this isn't happening in my parish. Gov. executive order is ALL PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED, which was a separate line item from the 250 people gathering, it has nothing to do with the kids and no wording stating so.

Anyone caught at schools or central offices are going to get lambasted by the media, after monday. I would stay FAR away from that. You aren't going to shut down schools but then assemble 50-75+ teachers (at the larger schools) and make them work when everything they can do can be done at home. The media would have a field day with that

"K12 school districts forcing teachers to work at schools closed from Executive order by the Governor at a time of national emergency."

This is going to be fun to watch

Everything we are doing in my district is setting up essential personnel to work remotely, this includes teachers. We are coming in Monday and POSSIBLY TUES to get all that work complete then it was "dont report back until further notice"

Take it FWIW.

Does the order apply to Church services or not?

Here is the email from our superintendent:

quote:

Governor John Bell Edwards has issued a proclamation closing all K-12 schools across the state until April 13, 2020.

On Monday, March 16, 2020, all Central Office Staff, Principals, Associate Principals and Assistant Principals are to report to work as normal. At 10:00 A.M., please report to the Central Office, to participate in a district planning day. All other employees should not report to work on March 16, 2020, but will be expected to work during this time, excluding April 6-10, 2020.

On Monday, a district plan will be communicated that will outline expectations for all employees for the remainder of this closure. Please note that this plan will include all employees reporting to work.

Thank you

This is where the confusion comes in for me.

The order states all public schools are closed but then also mentions this applies to gatherings of 250 or more people, which the school wouldn’t be when you remove students.

I have to report Monday but have absolutely no idea about anything after that. It doesn’t make any sense to get 50+ adults together (many of whom will undoubtedly bring their kids with them) if the point is to contain this. I can understand reporting for 2-3 days to get everyone set up on google classroom and have packets ready for those without computer/internet but there is no need to have such a large group collecting every day when they can do what is being done at home.

I know the TD hates teachers more than any other profession but it would make more sense to not pay them than to make them report to a closed school and risk someone spreading the virus amongst staff just in time for the kids to return.

This is what we're doing. Just wait till the districts making staff come in contract the virus and spread it anyway.

This is going to get really interesting

We are coming in to plan and set up people to work remotely. We are leveraging all the free software companies like Google she Microsoft and Cisco offer bc of COVID-19 to get this up.

Putting large groups of people in schools is so dumb if you are closing them to prevent the spread. I can't wait to see what unfolds, school districts are idiotic.

What can you do better in a classroom with no kids in it that you can't do at home?

People get outraged about a lot of things, but this seems truly outrageous to limit the right to free assembly for religion but to create exemptions for airports and shopping malls.

Based off of what exactly?

How many years have you been studying infectious diseases?

I'm guessing it has something to do with employee pay, and employees having to work a certain number of days/hours in order to get paid.

In AP, we were told we will go Monday to prepare then online from there. I’d rather this than lose summer with vacations already booked. All assignments are online anyway, the interaction with students will just be very different. I don’t see middle school or high school level being that different except that if a parent isn’t checking up on the child doing their work. But.. that is also normal.

I'll find out but we for sure aren't reporting after Tuesday. My wife teaches so haven't heard it from her perspective yet I will soon

I could be off about the teachers but I can tell you with certainty we are setting up essential personnel at CO and PAC to work from home

Districts that aren't are asking for disaster

Great idea. When parents have to work they will send their kids to their grandparents house.

Fantastic. Real men of genius.
