I have friends who teach in 3 other parishes and all of them were told they'll still have to report to work

I’m not sure how, but this seems to have caught many district supervisors off guard. Like I said, I look for this situation to be very fluid.

LouisianaGov says prohibition of gatherings of over 250 people does apply to churches & houses of worship

Is this even legal?

Once a National Emergency or State of Emergency has been declared, yes.

Right now my kid's school is on through at least Wednesday.

I was just hearing the same. Did they say why they’d be open Monday & Tuesday? Or are they waiting to see if it’s actually warranted to close?

Got this email around 3pm. The email is a lot longer but claims they will be open through Wed at least.

I find it best to slow the process down, gather as much information as possible, and consider the proper course of action.  In this case, I am not necessarily going to follow the public school course of action.  My team is going to take time to consult with the appropriate public officials, medical experts, and school personnel as we determine our course of action.  As of now, xxxxx will continue to have school through Wednesday, March 18.  If we close, it will be after March 18. We will keep our families up-to-date as circumstances change, more information becomes available, and decisions are made.

That school does seem to be big on catering to the parents (understandably). It’s definitely good to not have to scramble for childcare for the people with younger kids. And to keep vacation plans

My kid is a teenager so it wouldn't affect us either way. She can stay her butt at home by herself.

I do feel for parents that don't have that option. It's going to be a tough month.

The White House reached a sweeping agreement with congressional Democrats late Friday on a bill to provide relief to workers hurt by the coronavirus outbreak.

“We are proud to have reached an agreement with the Administration to resolve outstanding challenges, and now will soon pass the Families First Coronavirus Response Act,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wrote to her colleagues.

The package includes free coronavirus testing for everyone who needs a test, including the uninsured; two weeks of guaranteed paid sick leave, as well as increased family leave; increased spending on unemployment benefits; more money to provide school lunches to students whose schools are closed; and an increase in Medicaid funding.
