A disclaimer type message was shown as the movie began. More or less stating some scenes in this movie may be viewed as offensive, viewer discretion advised, ...

What in today's society makes the movie Forrest Gump so offensive?

Only guess I have is he is named after a KKK leader.

Am I supposed to be offended Forrest didn't outwardly support the protests of the Vietnam War?

Let's leave the part he played for Alabama out as being offensive.

This movie touched on just sbout everything from AIDS and drug use to his mother giving favors to school administrators. What now is all of a sudden offensive that wasn't before?

Actual warning message:

quote:

This film includes language and/or cultural stereotypes that are inconsistent with today's standards of inclusion and tolerance and may offend some viewers

It's offensive to disrupt black supremacists when they're having a party. That movie is basically Hitler.

Forrest is white and smarter than most liberals, so it pisses them off.

There's probably always been a warning on tv channels. There's war scenes, Jenny naked behind a guitar, scenes from integration, etc.

Bubba is a stereotype of a Black man and the actor who portrayed him wore an appliance to make his lip stand out. That's all I can think of. I don't think the dreaded N word was ever used.

At least Forrest was sorry for ruining their party.

How fricking delicate does someone have to be to be "offended" by anything in Forrest Gump?

Further, where in our hallowed founding documents does it say we must bend over back to not offend certain people but other people do not matter one whit?

If Forrest accidentally invented partial birth abortion and then performed one on screen no warning would be issued.

I don't know why, but one of my favorite parts in Forrest Gump is when he is talking about what he did with all his money and he says something like "We invested in some fruit company".. And it was Apple.

Yes it was used. When they are saying they want to go to the same school. Would be royally dumb to cancel such a great and non offensive movie.

I understand what they're getting at. A year or so ago "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" came on, and I let my 4yo watch it. I had forgotten about the KKK scene. No biggie right, it is a part of our history and they don't exactly glorify them in the movie.

Well, a week later he's marching around the house holding up a big stick and I asked him what game he was playing, and he said he was the white sheet guys from the movie we watched.

That said, if Netflix had told me up front "contains offensive material" that wouldn't have stopped me because that's too vague. But if it was more explicit like "Remember the Klan scene?" that would have been more helpful.

The same disclaimer has probably been placed before Forest Gump every time it was played on cable since it left Blockbuster. Same as almost every other pg-13 movie or higher.

There’s bloody war scenes, cursing, and drug use, stop trying hard to find a problem that isn’t there
