Shocked it took me to page 3 to find this.
It would have been interesting to see where he would have gone. I liked the way he was heading with In Utero. More gritty, raw sounding. More dissonance in the songs.
On that same note, if Layne had been able to stay clean and active in AIC. We got to see a lot of what Cornell did after Soundgarden at least.

that was pretty common at that time, Billy Joel, Creedence, to name a couple
I’ve read about the Billy Joel situation. He eventually got out of his bad contract. Of course, his brother-in-law then embezzled most of his fortune while acting as his “manager.“. I also believe that Ingrid Croce eventually got out of Jim Croce‘s bad contract.
One of the very few who didn’t sign away his rights was Don McLean. Years later, when he was asked about the meaning of American Pie, he replied "It means I don't ever have to work again if I don't want to."

now that I've had a few minutes to think, Grand Funk, Ted Nugget, and Johnny Cougar also fell into that boat too

I know you're being facetious but I would have liked to see what Elvis would have done if he could have broken away from Tom Parker and his sycophants, probably impossible but there was a lot of untapped potential there

None really.
Most artists run out of good material after an album or two. I doubt many would still contribute at a high level if they had survived.
