I may have identified the problem

how is this a "decent point"?
Because people think that these guys get paid 100M when they sign a 100M NFL deal.
The team will VERY rarely pay 100M over the life of that contract. Sometimes significantly less.
Even the "guaranteed" money as reported in NFL contracts isn't fully guaranteed.

Odell Beckham Jr. talks about the struggle of living on a 5-year $100 million contract
Meanwhile, Marshawn Lynch didn't spend a dime of his NFL contract money. He lived off just his endorsement deals. Took all of his NFL salary and put it into savings and investments and now he's doing quite well in retirement with a sizeable and diverse investment portfolio

There’s no reason for him to be broke, no reason
But when you think you have $100 million, but you really have about $30 million once it gets to your hands, I can see how you can spend it all if you’re retarded.
Almost 40% to taxes and 3% to your agent (NFL contract, much higher for endorsements), manager, chef, trainer, etc.
And dont say they don’t need those things, they do.

This is another good point. Again, no reason these guys shouldn’t still be wealthy, but it’s easy to overspend when you think your contract is $100 million and it’s really only $60 million.
We got baws on here who’ve already spent their Christmas bonus and it’s December 2nd

I'm not talking about taxes or agent fees. That headline number you see when it says Player X signs with the Cowboys for 6 years and 90M? Yeah there's like a 95% chance the cowboys aren't paying the full 90M. Might not even pay close to that amount.

This is gonna get lost in this discussion, but he did make a decent point about the 100M deal really being 60M.
Players rarely get the headline number (I bet this is especially true for highly paid WRs and RBs).
That's BEFORE taxes, agent fees, etc.
Not a decent point. Its part of the agent's job to make sure his client understands the contract and what portion of the money is actually guaranteed vs non-guaranteed or incentive based.
NFL makes the rookies sit attend a rookie symposium where money management and having trusted financial advisors is part of the course. If OBJ decided to ignore all that and not have someone helping him manage his money smartly, thats on him.

Shannon is 1000% on the money there. It’s one thing to pay off nice things right then and there, but can you pay to keep them nice?

That's completely irrelevant to his point.
His point is that john q public sees the ESPN ticker than says Player X just signed a 100M deal. So John sees player X 5 years later and thinks to himself "damn that guy grossed 100M the past 5 years in the NFL". When in reality he grossed more like 47M.
It's still no reason to go broke, but his point is that the headline number you see and what you actually get paid over the life of the contract may be VERY different. Even the guaranteed money isn't really guaranteed either.

Shannon Sharpe and Ocho Chad Johnson are hilarious. Chad Johnson said he spent a little money as possible his first year and even got away with not renting a place by living in the Bengals facilities. And the good thing about being a pro athlete was that he got to wear fake chains and people they assumed they were real and that he never bought a piece of expensive jewelry in his life

Taxed by service days. If you play for the Giants you’re going to have a lot more service days in New York/New Jersey than anywhere else. And if there is no tax in an away destination, not going to get credit for tax paid for those days

i didn't feel like breaking down his every away game. He did get a game in Dallas every year while on the gaints so he had that going for him
AFC South is a tax haven 3/4 teams have no state income tax. Indiana is only 3%
