Jerry paid all the loans and such back early. He's all square.
SoFi in LA was self funded 100% though. He didn't feel like dealing with any of those headaches. Of course, Kroenke is a billionaire in his own right and he married a Walton so $2 billion to him for the land and the stadium was pocket change. It'd be like a guy making 100k dropping 6700 dollars on a 4 wheeler. Only the 4wheeler pays for itself a couple times over

Why can't old stadiums be reworked?
Apparently because they become "dated".
Honestly with the recent renovations to the Superdome, I really think it’s a top 10ish stadium in the league. If you look at it as a whole…proximity to downtown, amenities, aesthetics, it’s a fine venue.

The Arena of Nîmes, built of limestone and concrete in 70 AD, is still in use today:
Concrete gets harder as it ages.

What happens to the old stadiums?

Why can’t these multibillion dollar businesses with billionaire owners and multimillionaire professional players BUILD THEIR OWN ARENAS????
Another example of fleecing the poor and middle class.

Super Bowl (although weather turned that into a fiasco)
Wasn’t just the weather.
Selling tickets for temp seats for the SB that couldn’t be added in time meant you had tickets for entry which didn’t have a seat.
Can’t fully blame that one on the weather.

it's usually forced on Joe Sixpack in the form of long term bonds and old Joe and his family likely will never see the inside of the place ETA: old Joe will likely still be paying for that stadium after the new one becomes "dated" and the owner wants a new toy
AT&T cost 1.3 billion dollars. Taxpayers put up a 325 million dollar bond, which was funded by a 2% increase in hotels, 5% increase in car rentals and 0.5 cent sales tax increase. Benefits far outweighed the $325 million bond.
Admittedly, that stadium is unique and few, if any, will bring to the community what that stadium has already brought and will continue to bring. The Buffalo stadium will never bring that much.

Because they can and the owner wants to? Why do you care

that's the point of my original post, Jerry World is a bit of an outlier in that area and I used to be pretty up to speed on this but don't care enough to get back up to speed on it, but by and large building a new pro sports venue has not been good to local taxpayers

Especially in Buffalo's case, where it's not like they need a modern stadium to attract super bowls and CFP finals, which aren't going to Buffalo under any circumstance.

Hijack: Should it be allowed for health insurance companies and hospitals to sponsor sports teams like Highmark is? They're my health insurance company and paid out of the arse for naming rights.

The Bills stadium is a dump, but it seems like they’d build an indoor stadium. Cleveland is building a new domed stadium, so I kinda get that, although the stadium they have isn’t that old.

almost a guarantee that if you will build it, they will come, talking about the Super Bowl, those owners aren't going get that brand new toy unless they can showcase it

In a world where I can't get a V8 truck law makers are funding the destruction and rebuild of perfectly good stadiums

Usually it’s less seats with more suites. Suites are where the big money is.
Corporations usually spend big money on these and use them as perks for employees or courting other businesses/ investors.

The same reason the Texas Rangers needed a new stadium. They absolutely didn’t. The Ballpark in Arlington opened in 1994 (I think). 26 years later, they “needed” a new field. There is literally nothing wrong with the old field even now. It was just to inflate the owner’s ego

It was still in use when I was there in '87.

All it would take is telling the owner no.
You might lose your team, but it's his team. He can do what he wants.
