This is a travisty to those familys. Here in metairie and surrounding parishes Oschner has been BUILDING aclinic on every corner.Kidney dialisis centers, cancer centers , emergency centers ,yet they are laying off 700 people. Yea thats the ticket!!!
It’s kinda like they didn’t factor in that they’d have to start paying the Nursing staff out of their own budget when the Government stopped paying travel nurses.
So they just spend, spend, spend!!!

especially when a large number of groups, are non-profits and the “medical debt” / “cost of care” are 3-4x what they should be to ensure they get full reimbursement thru medicare. they just write off that “bad debt” against their revenue anyways.

From the article you linked...
$390M increase in salary and wage expenses in a year.

The nonprofit system reported a $96.4 million operating loss and a $185 million net loss across 2022, a turnaround from the $138.6 million operating gain and $306.5 million net gain of the prior year. A $390.9 million year-over-year increase in salary and wage expenses contributed to the reversal.

Everyone shouldve known this was coming. I honestly dont understand why anyone is shocked. Then again, Ochsner just hired my wife 2 months ago.

My wife works there and I had no idea. She was working late hours and I’m like what the frick are you doing?
Some of the info given on this thread has been spot on. There’s a reason my wife don’t tell me shite

I wonder what’s the time frame for Kaiser to take over Ochsner Health. Took about 3 years for Ochsner to buy the Lafayette hospital system but of course that was during a pandemic

Is this even on the table? I haven't seen anything about it

That’s the rumor I’m hearing.

I was told Kaiser has had a presence for a couple of years, albeit quiet. Ochsner overspent on LGMC. LGMC had to find a buyer and Ochsner had been sniffing around. I fear Kaiser is months away from buying Ochsner.

It’s multifaceted. They have an overbloated system of management/bureaucracy- six figure employees who don’t earn a single penny all year. The other huge issue is that Medicare reimbursements have remained flat despite record inflation. That’s a problem that going to really screw up our health systems even more.

Getting paid is what she is doing.
Im sure a lot of hospitals got stuck with subpar Nurses to fill spots.

I wonder how much of that went to agency nurses? There was a ton of nurses that quit working at Ochsner for ~$30/hr, signed on with an agency and went right back to work at Ochsner for $80+/hr. So I wouldn't be surprised if Ochsner was paying the agency $100/hr per nurse. It would've been cheaper to just double their RN staffs' salaries.

They have something called in house agency right now paying 80 dollars an hour but they are trying to bump it down to the 65-70 dollar range unless you agree to work 5 12 hour shifts a week for the 80 dollars. I’ve had a few friends leave and go elsewhere when they try to cut their pay.

Where'd you hear the rumor? If true, it would be a huge upset in the local Healthcare market

Anyone hear of another local hospital about to do the same? Around 300 jobs this time?
