re: Ochsner to layoff 2% of its workforce today

So the rumor that they really just fired non-patient care positions is false. They laid off quite a few staff that are involved in patient care. If you are an experienced nurse and you work for Ochsner you need your head examined. They do not pay well. A 3 month travel contract for a nurse will make almost a years salary of a full time nurse at Ochsner. There is a reason they hire a lot of contract and travel nurses. They can't keep quality nurses.

Rumblings that Kaiser is going to buyout Ochsner. Yikes.

In south east LA I know NP’s that start at $80k so $160k in this area is pretty good.
LA pay is dogshit across the board regardless of job and outside a few specialties ochsner prides itself on being one of if not the lowest paying healthcare org in LA.

Spent the day working at Ochsner main campus. Lots of animosity and anger o we there with the way the layoffs were handled

I'm at Ochsner now. Have to trim the fat somewhere. Alot of these positions were useless. The leak to the news forced their hand to do the lay offs last minute. If it were me I would be ecstatic. Fish 5 days a week for 2 months then work somewhere else.

Just find it funny that no one from the DEI department was cut. I’d like to see a list of their accomplishments and how that contributed to the success of the organization.
So in this case…
DEI could literally = DIE.

How is this possible?

Worked 5 years at Ochsner Main Campus 10 years ago. Still keep in touch with employees over there. Word is traveling around Ochsner LGMC, also.

Doubt anyone was. Last I heard they are trying to balance the demographics of the workers. Maybe this is part of it.

Yea they make it a point to tell their employees that working for Ochsner is worth a pay hit vs the competition lmao.
They act like they are fricking SpaceX or something hahaha

I wouldn’t be shocked if there offers but that’s about it.

Let them burn. Warner Thomas was awful and he created this mess. I would love to know what the physicians and investors who signed off the LGMC-Ochsner deal years ago are thinking now. I know a handful on that board that were 100% against the takeover because of what we are seeing today. I feel sorry for them the most.

The rumor around Chabert is that they went for all the employees who worked for the state, or LSU, before Ochsner bought them.
Also, I;'m hearing some rumblings that there may be another even bigger layoff around July.

Yea they wanted to do it on Monday after Mother's Day. Get them on little weekend high and then lay them off

That would be extreme.

Are you saying there isn’t a single physician with independent or learned business acumen? Seems far fetched
No, there are plenty of physicians who earn an MBA or go out of their way to learn the business aspect of healthcare. What I’m saying is that they aren’t taught that in med school, and the opposite of that is true for healthcare admin folks (many of which hold MD and MBA degrees).
The whole reason for my initial post was to point out that healthcare admin are needed, whether they be MDs with further education in business, or business minded folks without MDs.

Yup. I was told yesterday they flat out lied when they said no patient-facing employees. But, I’ve seen some lousy, lazy nurses that makes you wonder how they even got through nursing school, and hope those were the ones let go. The good ones make a difference, and not just in the care, but they brighten a patient’s day. Hope they kept their jobs.

I have a friend in Oregon who’s had nothing but issues with Kaiser. Then again, Ochsner….
