Current LEO, future attorney. If I get a job with the IRS I will have the trifecta of most hated person on the board.
ETA, I have actually had issues at my current workplace because cops generally hate lawyers.

You should go to medical school in Central America and become a late term abortion doctor.

What is your goal with IRS? Tax attorney?
CPA is harder than the bar, by far, so be ready for that.

I would prefer not to be Chelsea Clinton's fantasy back door man.

Just being facetious. Want to do gun trust, concealed carry holder legal defense, prepaid LEO legal defense, and general criminal defense work.

I've considered going this route towards the end of my LEO career.
Couple questions if you don't mind me imposing:
How many years do you have on the job?
Night school?
Plans after passing the bar?

Good luck. LEO to criminal defense is a fascinating transition. I respect both immensely for very similar reasons.

13, vested in state retirement. Just partial at this point.

Night school?
Mostly weekends since Sept of 2013. This is my first semester getting to watch cfb. Just two electives in my last semester.

Worst case, get full retirement via working in DA or Public Defender's Office.
Middle of the road, join a firm that can use my experience.
Best case, my business plan for gun trusts and the like pans out = what I love (guns) and plenty of income. Best case +, my business card reads, "Attorney/Arms Dealer.

I have found that each independently makes me better at the other.

From what I have read on here, you are spot on regarding my law school. However, I prefer being underestimated.

What advice would you give yourself if you could before starting?
Biggest obstacle academically?
I have a little over 11 years on the job. Would like to do at least (20) maybe even (25) before changing course. I am only interested in prosecution as I see things now.

Do it sooner rather than later. You can do it. Discipline is the key.

For me there wasn't one. Life experience had made me a better student. I was an average undergrad student at a good private college in AL. I will graduate with honors from law school. Mainly because I enjoyed it and from working my a$$ off.

Keep an open mind. I've learned more from good defense attorneys because of the different perspective. It is a sorry whore...That cannot work both sides of the street. Being a prosecutor means being a trial attorney which means paying attention in civ pro., EVIDENCE, and trial advocacy. If you are a "good cop" you will be amazed at the amount of $hitty police work you see. Trust me, I clerk for one of the best defense attorneys in AL. I investigate scenes outside my JD for him....eye opening.
