Interested in hearing from those who have done one. What was it like, how did you prepare, was it worth it, what kind of course you would recommend for someone looking for a real challenge but nothing insane.

Did it in grade school all the time.

Any type of 3+ mile race that has obstacles along the way. The only one I’ve checked out so far is the Spartan races which have things like climbing walls, sand bag carries, rope climbs, muddy terrains etc dispersed throughout the course.

There's a poster here who's really big into that dorky Parkour crap... Oweo maybe?

My wife, myself and a bunch of friends did the spartan super in saraland, Alabama several years ago. It was for the Saturday LSU played Florida and we all wore LSU shirts. If I remember right it was 10-12 miles. I was in much better shape then bc I was doing CrossFit and running 4 days a week as well as watching my diet. By no means was I a CrossFit hero though. Cool thing is, you can go at your own pace, stay to the right to allow others to pass and enjoy it. If you can’t do a obstacle (I can’t climb ropes) you just do burpees and move on.

Did a tough mudder and it was fun.

Wasn't nearly as hard as getting to level 12 in farmville

The only thing you need to know is there is Legends of the Hidden Temple and then there is all other obstacle courses

I did the tough mudder. It was a BLAST.
My knees never hurt so bad in my life like they did afterwards but the beer they handed me when I finished also tasted better than any i've ever had.
Even got the shite shocked out of me.

10-12 miles.
That's not an obstacle course, that's an escape attempt.

I just watched a YouTube clip of a tough mudder, that looks a little more exciting than a Spartan but still nothing too crazy. There’s one near me early next year. Think I’m going to try to get a group together. Looks like a lot of fun. Thanks you two for mentioning that one, just what I was looking for.

Most are fun but don’t expect challenging unless you look for it. I’ve seen some big ole women at tough mudder

Were they obstacles?

There were a few local races that were semi popular a few years back. Then it just seemed to disappear.
Battle races OCR.
The battle of Baton Rouge OCR
They were really fun, anywhere from 3-7 miles with 30+ obstacles.
I did them for a couple years when they were around $60 for the race. They kept hiking the price up until it was over $100. After that I’m not sure what happened to them. The website doesn’t even exist anymore.

What shoe would you recommend for a tough mudder?
Posted on 5/23/20 at 3:36 pm to yellowfin
I want something accessible enough that I can get a group together of varying fitness levels but not something so easy that it feels like a waste of time to anyone. Somewhat of a tough balance to strike but it seems like tough mudder does it.

Haven't done one since Van's Warped Tour

Probably something like this New Balance “water shoe” that allows for water drainage.
