Gonna be a whole lot of rental properties removed from the market, publicly. Gotta have references referral to even know of the property being for rent. Therefore the property owner has plausible deniability to refuse to rent the property at all. It's simply not up for rent, the applicant was not denied.

Our hoa just implemented the opposite last year. You can't rent your home out to a convicted felon or sex offender.

I'm a little uncertain how I feel about it tbh. I feel very differently about violent vs non violent felons.

Supposedly one out of every four black males age 18-34 is involved w/the criminal justice system (in prison/jail; out on bail; on probation/parole)

Cities are controlled by black political machines

This is what their voters want

Expect more of the same around the country

Such BS. One of the reasons the housing projects in Nola have been so much better since Katrina is because they screen people better and have more authority to remove scum.
I fully expect that to change in the next few years

These laws are an example of unintended consequences

Laws banning background checks are awful for young black men without criminal records, because it forces landlords to choose whom to rent to based on the entire race, not individuals

Many employers, aware of higher rates of imprisonment among blacks, are less likely to hire blacks whose individual backgrounds are unknown to them. But those particular employers who investigate everyone's background before hiring them do not have to rely on such generalizations.

Can they still check credit? That will be next. After that, the city will just take ownership over all landlord duties.

No, I don't. But I also feel like some 40 year old guy with a felony marijuana conviction on his record from when he was 19 shouldn't be shunned either. I'd be willing to review those on a case by case basis.

This is an affront to the property rights of the owner. It's my property, I should be able to do whatever I feel is necessary to ensure that a lease is worth it.

In my neighborhood the hoa would not let you as a convicted felon rent a home. It's against the rules. All renters have to pass a background check.

Yeah not renting to black people which will happen. It sucks but I think this will have the opposite effect they’re intending.

Bernie just last week advocated for federal rent controls. The government tells you what you are allowed to charge for your rentals. What could go wrong?
