It is the circle of life. Conservative-leaning (regardless of actual party affiliation) pro business and individualistic success leaders make a city great. Once it is great, the good times allow the idealistically liberal minded people the opportunity to come in and try to implement their pie-in-the sky utopia totally devoid of reality because there are no major problems to combat. In trying to implement their fantasy-land that never accounts for basic human nature the city falls apart...which then requires a strong conservative minded person to come in an clean up the mess once more. Rinse and repeat.

NYC in 1970's - crime riddled and on the verge of bankruptcy

NYC in 1980's - beginning to rebuild with a mayor who billed himself as a "liberal with sense".

NYC in 1990's - what once was a decrepit dump starts to flourish once more as the "city on the hill"

That momentum kept going post 9-11. But in the 2010's the liberal alternate reality mindset took charge and started the downhill spiral once again. Thus, the city will have to "burn" before it can be rebuilt once more.

Unfortunately, our populace has never had much of an appetite for history and trying to learn from it. Every new generation thinks they are right...until history proves them otherwise.

Well stated sir, nice work !

The suspect did not pull the trigger. He just found it on the train and was looking for a safe place to dump it when it just "went off" by itself

Man, with the way the world is going it feels like we are quickly approaching the end of days.

This has been debunked. The truth is these times are much safer and less troubled than 20 years ago or 50 years ago, or almost any time in the past. It’s the news coverage, and the access we have due to technology, that makes things seem worse.

The book I was thinking of is Ten Global Trends by Ronald Bailey and Marion Tupy. I heard Marian speak. He was so good, I read the book. I strongly recommend it. The premise is that most smart people think the world is getting worse, but they are clearly wrong. The world is getting much better.

They explain that good things happen gradually - and are therefore not newsworthy. Bad things happen quickly most of the time, and THIS is what gets reported. They give an example: how long does it take to raise a socially adjusted person compared to how long it takes to kill one. The first never gets reported; you know, “Today 35 million people reached adulthood, successfully transitioning from childhood.” This never gets reported. But “Today in Queens 6 people were murdered” gets reported all the time.

They discuss ten trends that are moving in a positive direction, including violence trends.

Why is this happening? NYC has the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. I heard on the news that zero tolerance gun laws will end gun violence in the US.

I am against strict gun laws. I’m also against stupid arguments, and yours is one. NYC can ban guns all it wants and it will still be drowning in guns because America is bristling with them.

If the USA banned guns, and aggressively confiscated them, gun crimes would eventually plummet as they have all over Europe. Perhaps other means of killing would take the place of guns or perhaps crime would drop.

Some European cities, like Marseilles, are very dangerous, but rarely have shootings. And Marseilles’ murder rate is 2.7 per 100,000 citizens; Baltimore’s is 50 per 100,000! And Marseilles is one of the more dangerous European cities.

Guns are not the only reason Baltimore is more violent than Marseilles. Part of the reason is that America is just a more violent nation. This might have something to do with our brand of capitalism red in tooth and claw. But that’s just conjecture.

Lot of words just to state you are a poorly educated and parrot talking points without an ounce of critical thinking or even basic research on this topic.

Yes, of course. Why, just look at the war on drugs. We’ve had similar policies and that effort has been a phenomenal success.

frick off dip shite with your Utopian dreams of gun control. It’s the typical red herring libtards put forth to explain the societal failures encouraged by and facilitated by the progressive ideals and policies that reward irresponsibility and aim to hold no one accountable except those who truly have nothing to do with the actual problem.

I don’t know, man. There is definitely something to increasing volume and instantaneous news being a factor, BUT the degradation of our inner cities and small rural towns is very real. I just don’t believe that crime in the USA was worse in 1955 than it is today.

I’m not overly worried about what’s happening in East Asia or other far away places that we’re getting brutalized in the early part of the century. Global trends may be better but not our country.

My buddy’s a cop in Brooklyn and was one of the first ones to respond. Shook him up pretty bad.

He also posted stuff about:
-Nation of Islam
-Americans being "exterminated" like "Jews in Auschwitz whose prayers went unanswered"
-Black Liberation Army

Well at least he's not a terrorist because he's black. Just imagine if he was white!

No, a small portion of America is violent. Banning guns would do nothing to change this fact.

What started in 1968 has now come full circle, and there is no fixing it.

And we would also all be locked in our homes because Joe Biden said it's the only way to get rid of COVID.
