Most people as in almost all people in NYC live in the shittiest and smallest apartments. Rats in the walls. Nothing updated in 70 years. Smells bad.
Those people take the shittiest train and bus in the US with mentally ill people everywhere to work every.
There is no amount of nightlife worth that. You can do just fine in lots of cities. He'll most people there probably can't even afford to go to all that fancy stuff they brag about being in the city after rent.
Anything else you can visit New York for.

Exactly. This article tells me that he 6 people actually did the responsible thing by renting a place they can easily afford and not over-extending themselves.
They then lost their job and instead of using the UI to cover the rent, decided they are not paying it.
This article points to a larger issues which is that many NYCers feel that they have been taken advantage of by large property owners and have decided they aren't paying rent altogether. I would tell these people to f off.

correct @slowflopro is making arguments that do not exist. cities are still very desirable but it's also become trendy to not pay rent esp in ny
