frick off you self righteous dick. They are just as callous about the south and the “bible clutching, gun loving, racist, rednecks” as the sentiments posted about them here. Sorry some folks died, but it doesn’t change the fact that the majority of northern, east coast residents are arrogant liberals who hold the rest of the country in contempt. Karma is a cold
Bitch. They can deal with it.

while i do agree karma is a bitch and majority of liberals are idiots......lets not lose sight of the fact that these are americans.

also please dont lose sight of the fact that many of these dying are younger people living in basement apartments.

you can not agree with someones politics, know they are ignorant and still not celebrate death.

no need to be toxic and have zero empathy.

i mean i think most poor people are there becuase of thier own terrible life decisions, but istill have empathy for them and will help those that want to help themselves.

If you’re not in an area that typically floods, that’s a fairly high rate of rain in that short of time.

Same rate Harvey dumped on Houston, but the storm stalled for a 36 hour period.

A lot of people are saying we should make fun of them for not being able to handle a little rain, just as they make fun of us if we get a little snow and our cities shut down. I mean, I'm not saying it, but a lot of people are saying they're pussies.

Or maybe, just maybe, they shouldn’t take to the internet with glee to make fun of weather events the south doesn’t have infrastructure for, just like theirs isn’t prepared for this.

I saw alot of the comments blaming this on climate change.

How exactly does one prevent a hurricane from happening. I'd love to see what's their plan regarding this. I am sure it will be very logical and realistic.

Parts of the city were getting 6” an hour at the peak, like around Hobby. I believe Pearland measured 10” in a 90 minute period. 2-3” an hour is still pouring though

im a civil so understand all of the drainage issues....i just assumed NYC got way more rain than that on average especially in the winter.

guess you learn something new everyday.

They get more snow than freezing rain I imagine given the location. I want to say their average winter temperatures are around that sweet spot to give you more snow.

I also imagine slow melt is slow for them. Grounds might get saturated but it’s not melting at the rate of 2-3” an hour (which is where you get in trouble with rain, it’s not the amount as much as it’s the rate it’s hitting the ground).

This isn’t exclusive to Northerners by a long shot.

This is why I stand by my statement. The amount of people who think this and think the south gets what they deserve weather wise because of their "politics" is sick. The WaPo article last year on Lake Charles and all the comments is the perfect example.

I don't wish death on anyone, but Karma is a bitch. Sitting up there using all the products the oil and gas industry provides them while simultaneously shitting on the entire industry. Maybe the East Coast will have a little more sympathy. Now I get to listen to Bernie and AOC bitch about climate change as they fly around on their private jets.

After listening to all of them shite on Louisiana and Texas about "climate change" and "why would you live in an area like that"...

frick'em. I hope your self righteous arse enjoys ripping out drywall.
Weve all been through flooding, and I wouldnt wish it on anyone. Some of the videos are pretty crazy. The people in this thread acting like we're better than them because we see this disaster more often is silly. We are ill equipped to handle the slightest winter storm

Not to be a dick, but what significance does this even hold

I don't celebrate their misfortune because they're fellow human beings/children of God, but I find decreasing usefulness in caring about "fellow Americans" who don't believe in anything I care about. We share geographic residency, but even then they're 1000 miles away.

I think people misuse this term.

I have sympathy for the poor, not empathy.

Now, i empathize with people in ny rt now for their personal property being ruined from flooding because i know what thats like.

I'm by no means trying to say we're better than them, and I don't think anyone else is either. The point was that many people there have a smug attitude about what has happened here, thinking we get what we deserve. Four days ago it was "well sucks for Louisiana about the storm, but they don't believe in climate change so they reap what they sow" as a Cat 4 hurricane destroyed an entire part of the state. Now the shoe is on the other foot.

I'd agree. The difference is that the national media and social media isn't rubbing their inability to handle a heavy rainstorm in their face.

Snow melt generally doesn't cause much flooding unless you get a heavy rain on top of it. The ground is already saturated and the snow pack on top forces the rain to just run off, while also melting the snow pack at a much higher rate.

We have bigger problems than what the media thinks of us.
