Because they won't have gay people with pride flags in the parade.
He is going to where his preferred action is at and will be hanging out with gay people at the Rainbow Run.

Saw this the other day. Seems like he’s actually handling it well. He was being pushed to strip their parade permit and/or remove police and sanitation resources. He said no, they have a right to hold the parade and it would be wrong to remove the necessary resources. He’s just not going to participate in it.

The appropriate response would be “it is for Irish pride”, and that’s it. Sexuality has zero to do with it.
If you are a gay Irishman, the parade is in support of your Irish ancestry.
