Really bad.

So sad that a good deed went so wrong for a person who had good intentions.

Car door open, phone, wig and cap on the ground and a report that a man was seen leaning over into her car doesn't sound like this will have a happy ending. It's amazing what evil people do.

This seems too random. Could have been a 6 foot baw with a CCL that pulled over, or a cop.

There was probably an accomplice hiding nearby ready to kill any adult male that showed up.

I recall hearing that a tactic of Derrick Todd Lee's may have been make the sounds of a crying baby while knocking on women's doors and saying something to the effect: please help, my baby is sick and my car is broken down.

There are some really sick bastards out there and women need to be ok with alerting authorities and keep moving to safety instead of trying to solve the problem.

"Russell is too old to be the subject of an Amber Alert, but her family is questioning why no Ashanti Alert was issued in this case.

An Ashanti Alert deals with critical missing adult cases and became a law in 2018"

Anyone ever heard of this before?

The old Ashanti Alert never gets it’s due. Never heard of it.

It is never going to have the coordination and urgency of the Amber Alert system. A missing adult is just entirely different, and that is evident in how the Ashanti Alert system has been implemented across the country:

quote:

Ashanti Alert Act National Notification System

Overview

Adult missing person alert criteria will vary from state to state and by jurisdiction. The reporting and alert processes are operated independently by the states, territories, and tribes. In all instances, the reporting of a missing adult requires law enforcement involvement and an investigation.

IN ALL CASES, CONTACT YOUR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY to report a missing person and to determine if the circumstances meet the state/territory or tribal criteria for an adult missing person alert.

The National Ashanti Alert Network does not accept reports of missing adults, but is a link to the state, territorial, and tribal area to share missing adult information to assist in the location and investigation of that individual.

Sounds terrible all around. I feel like there should be more to this story.

That is a very well traveled part of road. Like others said, very weird to bait a kid to get an unsuspecting female traveling alone.

Better odds of police or trooper patrol pulling over.

I'm with you. If an abduction/assault took place on the side of the interstate there were dozens of people that saw it happening. This is an extremely busy road.

I hope this story has a happy ending. However. real life isn't a movie. It would not be easy to drag this girl into a car without several people taking notice. It's just an extremely strange story.

Hopefully something will break soon.

This assumes there's only one person involved. If there are three in on it, you have two lookouts identifying potential victims way up/down the road and advising the other when to send the child out. They would also be looking out for police traffic as well of course.

With enough publicity, loud and raucous, they might just find the people driving by at the specific time who photograph the road ahead automatically. Get the tan car id and license plate and the dude.
BUt it would take widespread publicity and the acknowledgement that something terrible happened, way way beyond an alert which (to me and many others) is somebody's missing.
Alert isn't enough. Call it a kidnapping, call it loudly.

It's at night on an interstate. No lookout is able to identify a victim traveling 70mph. Would also be hard to spot incoming patrol due to headlights

The girls mom works for the same company my wife works for.

Apparently, she was on the phone with her sister in law while it all went down. SIL heard her approach the toddler and ask if they were ok, etc. Toddler never responded.

SIL thought the line went dead as she did not hear anyone talking anymore but then she could hear interstate traffic.

Everything was left behind, her phone, car, weave. Indication of a struggle.

As my wife put it, "I would have stopped" frick this world and the people in it. That's about 8-10 miles from my house, go that way all the time and so does my wife.

People are over estimating it because it's so close to hoover. Well shite it's in hoover, but that section at night is dark and wooded. WBRC has some traffic cam footage.

Is that thought to be her car flashing lights and in service lane at start of video and slowly going a little farther until it stops?

Almost looks like cops right at end of video.

If her car I can’t see how she could have seen something as small of a child walking along road as far back as she was when she pulled over and turned on hazards before stopping car.

That's either not her car or something is not as it seems. Sorry to say it that way, but you don't see a toddler from that far off going 70 through a turn.

ETA: unless she stopped and walked back toward the exit a good ways?

You can see her, if that's her car, get out and walk around to the other side of her car. I'm guessing that she walked into the woods from there.

If that is her car, maybe she passed the child, called 911, exited & was coming back around for the second time to the spot where she saw the kid?

Whatever happened that is a seriously creepy video.
Channel 6 traffic cam footage

You can see the driver exit shortly after the car stops, then see someone, possibly driver standing for a time by the passenger side, then the figure just edges out of the picture. Never saw a second figure child or adult.
If you stick with the vid at 3:45 what looks like a large flashlight waves in the woods back towards the camera.

Really hope there is some more news or at least clarification on the video.
