Count yourself lucky then, studies say about 50% of folks in nursing homes have some form of dementia.

Our local homes all have "Memory Care" wings to care for them.

Yes they are. So let them have that interaction outside and socially distant from people.

I agree shutting them down completely from outsiders was insane, especially because the staff still had outside interaction, but this is quite easily the fastest way to ramp up deaths

They will obviously not be walking themselves outside, do you have any other questions?

Oilfield, some homes have had nearly a 100% infection rate .. at this point I'm not sure it matters. I promise you these people need to see their people.

Yes they do, so let’s make a way for them to see them not in a confined space and not next to dozens of other highly susceptible people.

As the Alabama poster said, they have been allowing outdoor visits the whole time. That’s what we should have been looking at/doing too.

You can’t keep people isolated and completely cut off from their loved ones and expect good things to happen.

Diseases spread faster at nursing homes then probably anywhere else. If anything needs restrictions it’s nursing homes.

I know because I work at one. At the one I’m at all the staff are now getting tested for the virus twice a week per CMS

Because the virus spreads faster among the geriatric population the amount of comorbidities each resident has is staggering

Hell most of these residents family end up getting their resident to aspirate when they visit anyway.

I’m for them seeing family but it has to be done the right way

You can go from a Covid free facility to easily 25% of your residents testing positive in less than a week

Texas is allowing 2 visitors per person inside. “Residents of long-term care facilities can designate two “essential family caregivers” who will be allowed into a resident’s room. Caregivers are not required to maintain physical distancing”.

I’m sorry, it’s like like they aren’t at the end of their life & most only keep fighting for their family.

I cannot tell you what the last 6 months has done to my a Grandfather, he looks terrible & he’s 94.
He is ready to go, he has been fighting to see us again & has just about given up hope.

Nursing homes located in parishes with no more than 10 percent test positivity and without any new onset of COVID cases in the last 14 days can allow indoor visitation.

I really hope the new cases doesn’t include staff because if it does we won’t see him again

You can thank some of those clueless CNA’s who don’t give a shite about wearing their masks correctly

They’re in the nursing home because their families hate them.

Bad answer. We've got people who are bed bound but can have a conversation ... that's discrimination in my book in a situation that human rights have already been violated enough.

Considering how hard COVID hit many nursing homes.. You could argue that they are actually doing what is the safest thing for them.

frick em. Let them die alone, right? They are old and worthless anyway. Why should anyone care what they want? It isn't like they may prefer risking covid in order to see their loved ones.

And why would loved ones need to talk to them before they die, right? All that matters is COVID. The mental health and well being of people should never be a consideration against COVID.

I get why you’re so upset, it absolutely sucks. No one likes this. Unfortunately we didn’t control this when we had the chance and now here we are.

I’m a therapist at a nursing home. We finally became Covid-free last week for the first time in months. Last I heard our death toll was around 25 with quite a few others on hospice that never recovered after being diagnosed. Letting outside people in just isn’t smart. It was clearly already bad enough with staff that gets tested weekly.

A lot of our patient’s families come and talk to them through their window daily. I’d suggest seeing if yours would allow the same.

No one is okay with it, it sucks. I can’t speak for everyone, but I make sure to sit and talk with all of my patient’s and give some extra loving that all of them are missing. I get that it’s not even close to family.

Unfortunately that’s not the case for many, many residents.
