Once you stay home for holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, you realize how nice it is and wonder why so many people subject themselves to environments that are stressful on a holiday.

I always make a point to say this around christmas and always get 50/50 upvotes... obviously broken into the crowd who has broken away from holiday stress and people who throw themselves into because obligation and cant imagine a world without it..... or more likely are the ones causing it.

We are having a small thanksgiving that I've come to look forward to since my wifes family has broken events in two.... the very country but good folks side (my wifes parents) and the absolute bottom of the barrel white trash redneck shite head side (my wifes uncle and his brood). While I'll get to avoid whatever bullshite that clan starts internally, let me paint the picture so the OT may enjoy during this festive season:

There is the uncle who is dumber than a pile of gravel and is always trying to tinker and fix shite around the land that is shared among the family.... He can be seen gut hanging out, cigarette dangling out his mouth just breaking the shite out of something. I once helped this man fix an electric trolling motor and at one point he pulled a sledgehammer out to fit one part into another that clearly did not go.

Then there is his wife who is the source of the white trash injection that family received. He found her while she was tending bar and she never worked a day in her life..she was a stay at home mom while old baw above worked in a plant 24/7..again mostly found smoking and talking shite about whoever isnt outside at the time. She has multiple times made not so subtle comments to and in the direction of me and my wife (who both have masters degrees) how college is stupid waste of time and money...her kids are smart enough to know to WORK when they done get done with high school.... so let's flip to them and see how that turned out....

The eldest... knocked up his gf at 24ish I think...she was working at lowes but of course quit to have her baby...they saved money by continuing to live in the white trash compound with the above which worked out as the 2 dipshits above basically raised the kid in the early years. He drives 18 wheelers for fed ex...or at least did until he was fired...suspended... something for provoking a fight in a truck stop parking lot that ended with him being shot at and catching a few bullet holes in the cab of his truck. They have since eloped, but then had a reception that was BYO food, and drink, and chairs if you wanna sit... registry included..so bring the gift you bought them too. Since their nuptials they of course have cranked out another kid and are now happily residing in a trailer that uncle redneck bought them.

Then there is the middle child who is their only daughter... shortly after big bro knocked up his gf she got knocked up by the dude she was dating for 6 months. it was a joyous occasion all around..seriously despite her being 19 and barley knowing the guy aunt and uncle marlboro were over the moon. She of course quit her job and her, her bf and new spawn moved into the redneck compound. Her work is extensive, but the pride and joy if you get her going is recounting the time she got into a fight with a bitch who was testing her on an elevator at a beach condo. PS since big brother has had his second child she has made it known she's trying for number 2... with the same baw that knocked her up the first time. This dude has proposed and she has yet to say yes cause she doesn't really like him.... that was about 2 years ago...but she DOES want another child with him.

then there is the youngest. would often join in the "college is for morons" talk... currently is in his early 20's and works for an ac company while living... you guessed it... at the compound. It's recently emerged that he has gotten a backwoods gf that seems to have about 100 lbs on him. Im sure they'll crank out a few kids before settling down, having daddy finace them a trailer and he'll live out his days pounding mich ultras while she makes him crock pot cream cheese dinners after his 12 hour shift.

again..I will not encounter any of the scum of the earth as my MIL finally got over their bullshite ruining her peace...but sometimes it's nice to stop, reflect and think about the path that could have been..happy thanksgiving everyone

We've avoided cancelling Thanksgiving by agreeing to eat in the driveway. Covid redux.

We'll probably have some people at our house who decide to eat outside because the weather is supposed to be gorgeous in south La.

Wife is working tomorrow. It’ll just be me and the grown kids…and football. No parade.

I’m smoking a brisket today and we might have sides tomorrow with it.

I’ve got a nephew who just placed first in a math competition amongst schools in a major metropolitan area. Kid is a savant. His parents are raging libs. I’m thinking of ways to discuss him being recruited by Lockheed and/or the NSA out of middle school just to maybe set the parents off on a tangent.

This was hands down my favorite Thanksgiving play-by-play post of all time.

We are close to both of our families and all get along well, but I spend a lot of Thanksgivings and Christmases alone because my husband often works them and it is a built-in excuse for me as well. There's nothing like it.

This year, my bestie and I are spending Christmas Day together. Boozy brunch in the morning. White Christmas in our matching "Sister, Sister" White Christmas sweaters. Red wine and beef for dinner. Asleep by 8pm.

Just got in from the annual pre-thanksgiving day lunch with my niece - 10 years in a row we've "snuck out" to go get Waffle House while other adults are cooking. One of my favorite traditions.

0 they blow their whole decorations budget on an absolute army of Halloween anamatronics. Their yard is very stimulating and probably pleasant to someone with the IQ of a typical 7 year old...which tracks

I am in FL with my wife and kids staying at the in-Laws house. My SIL/wife’s sister is here with her two girls. In short, I hate my SIL. She is drunken trailer trash; her husband left her for good reasons. Potential is high I will get drunk and tell her to get bent tomorrow night. My son dislikes his girl cousins so chance for hijinks there too.

My son and I high went kayaking this am and came back to SIL already buzzed. My wife called out her out for her day drinking so tensions are high already

May have some drama tomorrow. My wife and sister are polar opposites in literally every aspect of their lives. Luckily I married the conservative, mentally stable one. They have been going at it really every since Kirk was assassinated. SIL thinks he is a POS and did not seem too upset over it all. That set my wife off and they have been at it ever since. Have seen her twice since then and they have not said a word to each other but it has been in larger crowds. Tomorrow will be just close family so there will be more chances of drama. My SIL has basically told my wife she is a terrible person and we are raising our daughters to be close minded because we do not expose them to gay/trans stuff and do not want them around her and her girlfriend. SIL has already stormed out of my wife's birthday dinner at a nice restaurant over Ukraine nonsense so she can fly off the handle at any moment. Just waiting for my SIL to say make some backhanded comment because my wife doesn't put up with her BS like everyone else does. Could very well end up in a screaming match between them and I have money on my wife all day. She pulls no punches when it comes to her sister. Will let everyone know if shite pops off! I plan to just observe and drink/eat and see what happens.

She’d fit right in on the OT.
