I've had many interactions with police, for the local level to the federal level, and I'll say there are good and bad at all levels. The problem is we are supposed to put our trust in these men and women and they should be held to a higher standard, so the bad ones really hurt and make it difficult for the good ones to do their job. That being said ACAB sorry to any LE here but FTP.

What I have come to realize is that experiences with police vary greatly depending on ethnic background.
I know, I'm a genius, right?
Lately though, it seems they take an attitude with everyone, or maybe it's just more apparent?

No, I have always thought that some perform their duties with the utmost diligence and respect for the people they serve. I have also always thought that some cross the line with the power/authority they believe they have.
True story: Four years ago, was at LSU. Came back home to visit over Christmas. Parentals were out of town, decided to not stay at their house but with a lady friend instead. Parents were going to be gone for 2 weeks so they had a patrol car coming by every so often just to check on house (there had been a break-in down the road very recently so it was understandable). I go over to their house one day alone, to stay one night. Look out the front window and notice a police car has stopped in front and a lady cop was walking up the driveway. I go to meet her at the side door to ensure nothing is wrong. I open the door and I guess I scared her. She pulled her piece on me while I'm standing in the doorway of a house I lived in for 15 years. She had that damn gun pointed at for me at least 2 minutes while I am trying to convince her that I am not burglarizing my own home. Even told me to get on the ground. Needless to say I was very heated by the time it was over.
ETA - On the flip side, I got pulled over on the Indian Turnpike about 2 weeks ago by a trooper. Said he clocked me at 87, I told him no way because I had my cruise set to 82 for 3 hours. He laughed and said okay but the speed limit is 75. I told him I knew that and was just being honest. He went on some spill about arguing so I just played along, apologized for arguing. He gave me a warning, shook my hand, and told me to have a nice day. He also made it clear that "just because he only gave me a warning didn't mean he didn't have me clocked at 87". I told him I understood.
Probably helped I was wearing a Brees jersey and mentioned I was just trying to get back in time for kickoff.

Tell that the family of on our officers in Columbia SC who was gunned down yesterday. 32 years old with a 6 month old son.

I've seen it go both ways, to be honest.
Some are a lot nicer than they used to be because they don't want to be on candid camera being an a-hole in case something went wrong (See Sandra Bland).
Some are just even more dickish just because they feel threatened that their every move is being micro-analyzed or something. It borders on paranoia.
For the most part, the police I speak with are okay. They are just trying to get through the day like anyone else.
Now, detectives? lol they're awful.

COPS has been running on TV for like 30 years...people (white black orange blue) have been getting they arse beat on national television.
Now it's become a social media thing where people put their spin on things for attention or to claim faux racism. That's the only change.

I think that is the majority, tbh.
Hell, the last state trooper that wrote me a ticket, I wrote a letter to his boss about how professional and courteous he was. (TSB)
It appears some LEO's go out of their way to escalate things though and sometimes they encounter people who escalate right back.
Nobody is saying you have to be a kiss-arse, but mutual courtesy goes a long damn way.

I was pulled over on the interstate in Baton Rouge for "driving erratically". Hadn't been drinking. Just wanted to get home from business.
Cop is just talking to me and he started easing up on me. He then looked at my license and saw my name (the whole is name is full blown Hispanic). He just looked back up at me and said, "Do you have any drugs in the car?"

I'm only 27, so in the past 20 certainly. I thought cops were cool back then. Past 10, not so much. A sheriff's nephew was wasted at 4:00 on a Thursday afternoon, ran over my friend who was walking on a sidewalk, and killed him almost instantly. All the evidence including the breathlyzer results suddenly go missing, and the scumbag didn't spend an hour in prison. He was 14 when he was killed. Never thought the same of cops since then.
