This is the sad truth. The problem with Louisiana is that so many of our citizens are poor because we are a shitty state.
So to punish the uninsured is to penalize them financially. Then they make the decision to drive with a suspended license because it costs more than they can afford to correct the situation and honestly is because our state's answer to a lot of our criminal problems is to tax the poor people to death where it's easier for them to break the law rather than do the right thing.
Get out of here with that dumb shite.
If you can't afford insurance to drive, then don't drive. Simple as that.

TexasSure relies on a massive database containing the names of all insured drivers and their insurance companies, matched to their license plate numbers and VINs.
When a driver is involved in an accident or stopped for an infraction, the law enforcement officer can enter the license plate number or VIN into the TexasSure system to verify insurance coverage. In addition, the data is available to county tax assessor-collectors, who can use it to confirm whether a driver has insurance before issuing or renewing a registration sticker.
Those who lack insurance are ticketed, subject to a fine of up $350 on the first offense and up to $1,000 and possible suspension of their license on the second offense. They also face a state surcharge of $250 a year for three years. Those who rack up multiple offenses and take no action are subject to arrest.

I feel your frustration. I got t boned by drunk at 6 am on way to work. No insurance and he put a permanent scar on right of forehead. Luckily I had uninsured coverage. But it was weird battling my insurance policy for my settlement and damages.
Ended up leaving geico and going to local company. It was such a pain dealing with them.
Side note focker got out of his car with just a leather trench coat on. It was like 10 degrees outside knew right then I was in trouble.

She actually had insurance, but she got it a few days before the wreck and her insurance didn't cover her yet. That whole situation was a bitch to deal with.

All 3 go to the hospital with injuries, and of course sue me. My insurance settled with all 3. What a fricked up system we have.

Personal injury lawyers exist to get people to pay up without going to trial. Their goal is to scare everyone into paying before fighting

God forbid we stop the Mexican caravans on our interstate !!!!

I'd be all for ending the war on drugs and putting all that effort towards uninsured drivers. I'm talking stop and frisk, no-knock warrants, the whole deal.

I've never been hit by an insured driver.

Serious question because I don't know... what happens to you if you get put in that situation? Does your own insurance typically cover your medical/car bills? Would they then sue the guilty party with no insurance?
Your liability insurance only covers the other driver for injury and property damage if you are at fault.
You must have "collision" insurance if you want your damages repaired by your insurance and you will be responsible for the deductible. Uninsured motorist will cover you for you injuries.
So if you have an accident with an uninsured motorist you are coming out of pocket no matter what since you will be responsible for the deductible for no fault of your own.
Your insurance will attempt to subrogate against the uninsured driver but I doubt with much success. If the insurance does happen to collect even a portion of the claim then you may get your deductible back.

Cops here can see if you have insurance or not. It isn't updated that often, but they can see

Brother was hit by an uninsured motorist recently. He doesn't have much faith that his insurance company will recover vehicle damage plus his $500 deductible. He's considering small claims court to get a judgement on the deductible and vehicle depreciation. Uninsured coverage on his policy is covering the medical bills.
Also, the uninsured driver purchased a replacement vehicle before my brother had his vehicle repaired. System is definitely broken.

I was told otherwise.

he could've made one hell of a good lawsuit against this guy.... BUT she didn't have any insurance. And in Louisiana if you are driving uninsured you can't sue if you get in a wreck, even if it is the other guy's fault. (Not sure how old that law is.
Something like that. I think it's no claim for the first 15k bodily injury and 25k property

I agree it should be mandatory in LA. Ultimately it should drive down the price if everyone has it. And the state should do what SC does. That outta set things in motion to fixing this.

Frick you. Driving is a privilege, not a right. Your logic and reasoning is what almost got my brother in law killed.
