From what I’m hearing the city may make a decision mid day Friday about the Saturday parades. If that’s true is completely asinine.

Can you elaborate? Seems like the decision has already been made. Roll on the day you are supposed to. Sunday looks worse now than Saturday.

As in whether they ride as normal, shift times on that day, or don’t ride at all.
One of the float LTs in a Saturday parade was told this by the captain.

Gotcha, seems silly as frick to cancel a day before. Endymion did that in 2011, and it didn't rain at all. Well didn't cancel, just moved to Sunday. The rain totals are down for Saturday and up for Sunday. I have a feeling Endy rolls, but I could also see them cancelling it.

Tuesday is starting to look bad as well. Of course Wednesday, Thursday and Friday look nice.

I don’t see how the city cancels any parades a day out without the forecast calling for massive rain or severe thunderstorms/tornados

I'm sure he's upset it was just on the top half.
Now to LIX this morning:
quote:
LONG TERM... Friday through this weekend is still looking to be an active one. An upper level trough will basically be anchored west of the area with multiple shortwave troughs swinging across the Mississippi River Valley. This will set the stage for several bouts of rain beginning Friday afternoon and carrying over through Monday morning. One of the shortwaves will bring a weak cold front into the forecast area Monday and try to push into the Gulf of Mexico. This may give the area a short-lived relief from high rain chances on Monday but moreso just looking a reduction in coverage rather than complete drying. A return to this weekend`s wet pattern is then expected Tuesday through most of the week as an upper ridge build across the southern Gulf of Mexico. This will put the CWA along the south area of a shear axis between that ridge and trough to the north.
Nothing new or interesting. Boundary stops over area, little bursts of energy ride up it from SW.
The NAM looks very nice this morning.
Barely an inch from now through Sunday morning. One model and it's much dryer than the GFS but can't hate that trend. PWat still highish on GFS sounding Saturday evening (1.5"), showing there is potential for heavy rain but the lapse rates (read: how quick air will rise) don't look very steep which suggests limits to any significant lightning.

So your prediction, that everyone rolls on their normal times, seems to be accurate. Thanks for everything you are doing in this thread.

Can I get a Sunday breakdown from you? Yesterday Sunday looked great now it looks worse. Things are flopping around so much I don’t if Saturday and Sunday will be light rain, wash outs or sunny and bright.
I’m so confused.

Exactly, especially since the forecast has a lot of margin for error. It could mostly miss us as well.
I have a feeling the city doesn't want to set up two parade routes just to have them rained out, etc. if they can help it.

That's what I'm most interested in too - damn weather.com forecast in the last 24 hours for Sunday evening has gone from 20% to 80% to 100% and now back down to 50%.

Is Mitch’s parting present to New Orleans going be canceling Endymion a day before the parade due to potential rain?

Timing is fluid, not surprising considering so is the atmosphere.
The general notion is the same ideas in place Saturday will be in play Sunday. The discussion of a shortwave driving a weak front through Sun night could be a rain producer but I'm not sold it'll be heavy or anything. I'd say bring the raingear out, but the parades roll no problem as things stand currently.
I'll do a deeper dive later

Can you not simply tell your people that you have decided not to go because of the chance of rain and make other plans? No need to ruin our day. fricking Pete.
Btw are you anywhere near Lucy’s? My hotel is right there.

So Saturday is starting to look like a wash out?
Posted on 2/8/18 at 10:35 am to Impotent Waffle
No, looking better than Sunday, about 1/2 inch or rain. According to weather underground
