Kids now do not have grandparents telling them about the war. The next generation will obviously be even farther removed. They will grow up viewing WW2 how a lot of us view the Civil War — an interesting study for the sake of history but no relation to current life. Sad to me. I’m proud of my grandparents’ service, but my grandfathers are deceased so neither my kids (nor future grandkids) ever got to hear the firsthand stories. It is a shame to me.

I interviewed my grandfather about his war experience for a project in elementary school.

Still have the notecards I used for my class presentation.

I get the sentiment, but I wouldn't call it "a shame" or "sad".

It's a good thing that we don't have wars like that anymore.

I'm hoping The Long Peace will last for many more decades.

Good, they need to start praising OIF/OEF vets and forget about those old geezers.

WWII was the greatest conflict ever fought. It's a shame they don't make em like that any more.

Of course not. College freshmen weren't even alive when 9-11 happened.

Like the south does by calling the Civil War the war of "Northern Aggression"?

As a healthy 20-something male, I for one am cool with current day geo-politics.

I was fortunate enough to have grown up surrounded by World War II vets. My grandfather, five great-uncles, friends, and neighbors. All in different branches in different theaters of the war. All were willing to tell me their stories, in their own way and in their own time. Every one one of those men were treasures, and sadly they are all gone now. I'll always remember (and written down a lot) of what they told me. It's still not the same hearing it straight from the horse's mouth, though.

been some sort of "conflict" going on in various parts of the world continuously since then, think it's even scriptural, not being flippant

It is 2019...so it has been 74 years since the end of WWII.

At the end of WWII...it had been 79 years since the end of the Civil War.

We are about as far removed from WWII as that generation was from the War between the States.

We've been there a while with ww2. We're to the point that 9-11 is forgotten.

Maybe. However, thanks to technology, the WW2 experience has been so thoroughly documented through both video/photos of the actual war and extensive interviews with vets. Future generations will be able to study WW2 much differently than the Civil War.
