It is admirable that you want to reconnect, but you must know why first. If you were raised Catholic and believe Christ is in the Eucharist, I don't know how you can walk away from that. You are lucky that there are plenty of Catholic churches in Baton Rouge, and I am sure you could find one that inspires your faith. If you are simply looking to be entertained or hear a specific message, I am sure others here could provide some options. Sorry I didn't answer your question about a specific church, but I think you must first discover what you are looking for.

Can you point out where in the verse me saying you you dont "need" a church is wrong? If you have the word how am I wrong?

I didnt say Church is bad. I said you dont need it to find God.

I am wrong? God says different? Becuase let me tell you, I picked up the bible and I dont attend "Church".

I am wrong?

It's very likely he will bounce from one stadium seating church to another. Catholics are all the twitch upon the thread types where they never really stop being catholic.

They often just take breathers from the pope while they pretend to worship other places. I've gotta hand it to the Catholics in how they maintain their congregations attention throughout their life.

OK but the Bible itself doesn't say "just read the Bible yourself."

In the Bible, Paul, the apostles, etc. are clearly going around and establishing churches and counseling those churches, and setting rules for the church.

OK and? Do I take Puals Rules or Gods?

I am open to learning and it is dense material, but I dont see a commandment that I MUST attend a church.

Well, I left the RCC the moment I started studying scripture in 1984, and haven’t been back, save to attend a weeding or funeral. No waffling here as it pertains to the the claimed supreme authority and theology of the RCC. Other doctrines I’ve wrestled with from time to time perhaps, but not that. Once I hit the door, that was it.

God gave us those people to perfect and edify, among other things, and you're saying, nah, I'm good? That's goofy. The Bible alse says don't forsake the assembly. (Heb. 4:25)

I said you dont need it to find God.

1 Corinthians 1 says we are saved through preaching, a function of the church. Like I said, the Bible has all the answers you seek but we tend to avoid the answers we need because they are uncomfortable and thats where the church comes in.

Not the answer you're looking for, but I'd suggest going back to the Catholic church. You don't have to agree witht the pope, and can assure you if you do some research you can find a pastor that speaks to whatever it is you feel like you're missing.

financetiger, I've attended Grace Life, First Presbyterian and Chapel on the Campus through the years. All great options to look into as you explore which congregation is good for your family.

Born and baptized Catholic but haven't been able to align my beliefs with the Catholic church. Also I haven't forgiven them for hiding sexual predators in their midst over fear of losing money and reputation.

I've attended Methodist, Presbyterian and the non-denominational junior Mega Churches.

Methodist and Presbyterian were ok because of the familiarity to Catholic church but still the connection wasn't there for me. The junior Mega Church was about what you'd think, lots of feel good messages with little Bible substance and give more to receive more from God.. Basic Joel Olsteem model.

I don't attend church often but I read the Bible most every day. That's my "Church" for now. I am studying a lot about the Orthodox Christian Church though and would love to attend a service at one some day.

Responses like this are why I dont enjoy churches. I get a quip about a 1 line verse leaving out the entire context of the bible. It works, I guess, in that thet arent committed to reading and understanding it with their own personal relationship.

St. Albans Episcopal church on the LSU campus is where we go. Good people and Father Drew is outstanding.

As a former Catholic, you will be very familiar with the flow of the service as the Episcopal Church is often referred to as Catholic Light.

A large part of the New Testament consists of St. Paul's epistles. So, Paul's "rules" are in the Bible.

Yes, as with it all the flaws of man. Just as you have missquoted as you see fit.

Like I said, I'd rather read and study with my own personal relationship than have the words used against me in such a way.

Did Jesus not die to save me? I must go forth and attend some techno light show now too to save my sould every sunday and donate for the huge electricity bill?

But no, I have not "Forsaken" Church as an idea, but as it it currently practiced, yes. You bet.

I gave you context. You don't go because you don't want to. You don't have to blame others.
