t the company's "long-simmering toxic culture has employees heading for the exits" to the tune of 12K departures in the past two years

how many of the 12k came in 2020 and early 2021?

Exxon's (XOM) stock is up 60% this year and is near a record high, but if the company "has any shot at dominating the volatile energy transition over the next century, it will need to attract and hold on to the next generation of scientists, engineers and technologists," the report concludes.

Ah, so the company is trying to get away from what it actually produces and anyone who objects is tossed to the side.

They pushed out lots of people recently that didn't fit the XOM culture. Specifically, XTO people.

So that's what, a 16% turnover rate over a few years? Isn't the national average like 25% for voluntary turnover?

I interviewed with Exxon last year. I declined the second interview after hearing more about their toxic culture. I couldnt find anyone that enjoyed working for them

Toxic from:

- actual poison
- wokeism
- not being woke enough

Who knows with today's journalism?

The arbitrary nature of those layoffs led to a lot of XOM folks looking for new jobs that otherwise were content to not test the job market. The one thing XOM always had going for it was a pretty crystal clear job security, when that went away the flood gates opened.

I’m not saying Exxon is a great place to work, but I don’t have high expectations for a report on oil and gas coming from Bloomberg.

The software developers, data analysts, and technicians who run Exxon’s vast computing network, which helps the company manage everything from drilling wells to pipeline flows, were in no mood to celebrate

A bunch of IT hands upset… that’s all I got out of the article.

Bloomberg said Exxon's (XOM) performance ranking system, which pits employees against each other, dominates the day to day, and subordinates are told not to speak out against their bosses in meetings for fear of being placed at the bottom of the rank and pushed out.

This system only works well in more transient industries like big tech or consulting where people tend to stay for 5-6 years then move on anyway. It drives people away in most other places.

Exxon is probably very aware of this, so I doubt they are being really hard nosed on this kind of policy. I don't work there, and it's difficult to really tell given the media's lack of honesty when it comes to covering energy companies like this.

Any OT insiders want to shed some light here?

Did they ever give back the 401k match?

O&G isn't what it was. Top minds have other options open to them and are taking it.

So 6K a year / 63K employees - less than a 10 percent turnover rate.

The accounting industry laughs at this.
