re: Northshore People: What will it take to widen I-12 from 1077 to Hwy 59

Unless you ditch the bridge in Madisonville, you're gonna have problems past Marina Beau Chene in the afternoons. That stupid stop sign, and now light, screwed everything up. Actually, lax development standards screwed up the entire western part of the parish

know they like to blame the Pinnacle on ramp, but you have 80,000+ cars a day passing through that area three lanes is a pretty good long term investment.
High rise is 3 lanes but people always like to creep up because I assume they're not sure if the other side is there or not. I drive it every day. As soon as you pass the peak you're doing 70

Widening interstates doesn't solve traffic or the root cause of bad drivers.
We keep trying though.

With all the dam taxes we pay in this parish there is no reason that it should not have been done already!
Yall actually pay fewer taxes than ten years ago. Tax rate in St Tammany is steadily falling.
Meanwhile the murder rate is skyrocketing! So at least that is looking up!

Seems like it would make more sense to add another bridge somewhere else. This is the same problem BR has on I12. There are no surface streets to get you from madisonville to 190. You either have to go down across the tiny drawbridge of up through Covington. So everyone takes the interstate. Just a bad layout. Don’t really think another lane is going to have much affect on traffic.
And from the reports I read it appears the truck driver wasn’t paying attention. So invest money in self driving 18 wheelers that do most traveling at night so it will lessen congestion.

A new bridge is needed for local traffic but I have no idea where to put that.
The I-12 congestion isn’t unfixable. When they widen that section to 6 lanes, which they will eventually do, the east bound on ramp and merge lane at Pinnacle needs to extend over the river to the 190 off ramp in Covington.

Signs that say WARNING! LIKELY CONGESTION AHEAD / SLOW DOWN AND BE ALERT FOR STOPPED TRAFFIC.
I said this in the big thread about the wreck. They need to immediately get some of them big information signs like they have up that warn you of the conditions of the causeway. They could have the signs start at Goodbee or maybe all the way back at the St Tammany/Tangi Parish line. Have it where it gives real time updates at least as real time as possible.
I work in Slidell so I drive that stretch everyday. I cannot tell you how many wrecks I have seen between Goodbee and the river bridge. Most of them happen between Hwy.21 and the river. The traffic is equally heavy on both sides. While the west bound side is very heavy the traffic flows at a slow pace and very seldom are there any accidents. The east bound side is the problem and while widening the interstate would help. I don't think it will solve the problem which is the Brewster rd. on ramp. There isn't nearly enough distance for cars to get the needed speed to safely merge. The only sure fire safe fix at the moment would be to close that on ramp. I know this is nothing new just sharing my thoughts of traveling that stretch everyday.

Agree with all of this and a new bridge. Here is a frightening thought. As bad as traffic is now. Imagine how bad it will be during construction.

I don't see how more lanes would have made the trucker pay better attention.

Prediction: the biggest opponents of expansion will be the local folks in St. Tammany when push comes to shove
Taxes used to be higher and shite used to get done. Then we entered the post Katrina building boom. In short, the population of St. Tammany exploded and a new voter base emerged. The new voters went with Slidell candidates that rode Jindal's coattails. Taxes were reduced and services were cut. Annnnnd here we are. Long time residents knew that you get what you pay for. FWIW, the population explosion meant the politicians didn't have to answer to the people. Reed, Strain, and Davis became arrogant. Brister seems to be a crook. Ditto the new sheriff. But hey, we are getting a shitload of future section 8 apartments all while fricking up traffic.

Strain is OOC. Blossman- maybe. The current power brokers are probably relatives of the new sheriff of the parish president.

In the meantime while waiting for them to widen I12... these fricking soccer moms need to learn how to use the entire merge lane when getting on the interstate. Instead of immediately trying to get on as soon as they can.

It took them forever to get the bridge over the Tchefuncte open when the highway was originally built. I can imagine with the environmental impact studies and lawsuits from people who live off of 3 Rivers Rd, it will take years to get DOT approval.

They need to put up those plastic things that separate lanes. The things that are like 4 feet tall.

Agreed. And, if he didnt see the cars stopped in front of him, I dont think he would have paid attention to a sign.

Sorry all you fine folks from the northshore...you're still in Louisiana.

True, the Slidell folks don't like paying for shite....but they want things and the place is suffering, stores (Target in particular and Academy not far off) and businesses closing.

So true, although I would argue that Red and Strain were always crooks even before Katrina, only, no one was paying attention and I personally liked Walter Reed as DA. Strain was Sheriff because of his name and Davis was always useless. Randy Smith is clueless and corrupt at that

Where are they putting them up? I know Slidell is loaded with them......New Orleans East is creeping into Slidell...only no one wants to come out and say it....that would be .....RACIST!!!!!!

They are going up in Covington and, as I understand it, Madisonville and Lacombe as well. Some will start out as condo units, but they will be converted in time. Just know that when you see these massive units going up, someone besides the GC is making some bank. It seems we are following the "Westbank blueprint" on our way down the drain.

Bingo. I've been saying this for a couple years now. See all those apts/condos going up right on the interstate near Hwy 21, Sams, etc? It'll be just like NOLA East along the interstate over there in short order, and none of the parish "leaders" give a damn.
