re: Northgate Area at LSU living?

I lived at Tiger Manor for 3 years (2016-2019). I don't really have anything bad to say about it. Make sure to get one of the renovated apartments, the non-renovated ones are pretty shitty. I paid $950/month for a one bedroom.
Obviously a lot of restaurants in walking distance. Chimes is by far the best, and their new rooftop bar is sweet. The varsity next door is a great music venue and place to watch games.
The only thing about the area is that it gets pretty sketchy the further you get from LSU (toward downtown). The Circle K at the corner of State and Highland can get pretty sketchy at night as well, but I walked around there at all times of night and never had any problems. I was basically friends with one of the guys that hung outside the store. Not sure if he was homeless or not.
My absolute favorite thing about the area is that I could walk to tailgates on gameday. I would have friends over, and no one ever got towed for parking at Tiger Manor. Depending on how tolerant you are of walking, you can walk anywhere on campus (including to Tiger Stadium). I even walked to and from the Tigerland bars multiple times when traffic was too bad or uber was too high.
ETA: Tigerland is still pretty fun at 22-25 if you like that sort of thing. I was in law school and knew quite a few people that still went to Tigerland. Downtown is all 21 an up I think, and the crowd is generally older (21-30ish). My favorite bars downtown are Boudreaux and Thibideaux's and Happy's, but there are some other options as well.

I’d suggest looking elsewhere and not immediately off of campus. You can always drive or Uber to restaurants or bars. The housing options have gone to shite near LSU.

You're not going to want to be 23 living around 18-22 year olds that close to campus. You'll be incredibly surprised at how miserable they will be as neighbors & all the shite constantly going on.
Take your budget & live further awat from campus mear older crowd bars. You will be worn out by the Northgate scene & even Chimes within 6 months.
Choose a spot further out. Hell, rent a pool house/mother in law suite. Use the extreme savings for the Uber rides. You'll have a MUCH better quality of life throughout your time at LSU.

The management at "The Bradshaw" (seriously, wtf kind of name is that) is essentially your typical shitty rent-a-management group. Depending on where you live in the complex you can expect your trashy neighbors to leave their dog's shite all over the ground including the sidewalks and stairs. It's close enough to get to almost any building on campus in 15 to 20 minutes or so, and you'll have a bathroom with air conditioning for tailgating, so that's a thing.

I saw it was 875$ for a 2 bed 2 bath. It looked decent from the picture but I will definitely visit in person before making any decisions

That area seems convenient. Close to campus, downtown, and that area has some nice amenities close by. Also it's right on interstate so commutes may be easier

I have property in the area so here are comments...long and not checking grammar and spelling so read through them....
Yeah now called Bradshaw and a nice large complex that used to be a bunch of older individual complexes.... good choice
Across from them in in between state and chimes is another large sorta hidden complex...Individually owned units...no pets ...pool and some grounds and parking...gated...
A few years back some areas flooded by the canal... lots of people took insurance money and sold out....a few of the older four plexus bought and updated nicely...oh yeah Bradshaw owns a few houses on state also and part of their rent kingdom...
Those old building by circle k were bought last year and gutted and now renting...the four plex by caines was bought by Todd and renovated for his “corporate office” ... he lived there when in college...
Down state on left back against crest lake a guy bought the complex and put in very upscale units.....very nice but pricey....
Those two historic building on chimes ( one was the old salon another yoga) were bought by a guy from New Orleans and both gutted...one renting now the other soon...your porch is on state street.... very nice places...
I own two units behinds Louie’s/ newks( which did not survive covid)... the old mr gatties...
They are 1200 sq feet townhomes ..... two bedrooms upstairs with a full bathroom for each...full size washer dryer... downstairs a half bath.. kitchen dining living...front door and back door...outdoor storage and assigned covered parking at your unit
Mine are both taken but the developer owns ten and has a few opening...rent for 1450-1500....very quiet and law students etc....gate opens in back and you step into lsu enchanted Forest...next to cypress hall... one sold just before covid for 220k and another was sold but person backed out due to job insecurity...on Zillow 230k
Zillow has lots of the stuff on for rent or purchase....
Love the area..... walk to class ...places to eat ...next to the five cafeteria for lsu etc...

El Cid is actually much better than most affordable places in the Northgate Area. Find a roommate and rent somewhere to the south of campus. Is being in walking distance to campus important to you?

Northgate would be a solid place to live..close to Chimes and you could walk to class
I lived in Tiger manor back in '06-'07.. Place was a complete dump but that was before they renovated it. It's pretty nice now from what I've heard
