As flawed as the Catholic church may be, I really think they were spot on when they required their priests to take a vow of poverty before they could run a parish.

If you are a true man of God, you should not be living a luxurious life. I'm not saying you should be in abject poverty but I really question a person's motives when I see they have a 5000sqft house, motorcycles, boats, and a private jet.

They are both equally sleazy.

if you think about it, most churches get 10% of monthly income from about 20-25% of parishioners every month. A large church, that's a lot of money.

Joel Osteen has it more than decent.

look I'm sure the pastor is a decent human being

but it is still pretty cringeworthy for a pastor to be bragging about how much money his church brings in on social media

what is the context of this screenshot? why was the pastor engaging in social media battles?

That is the million dollar question! This pastor showed poor judgement putting himself in this situation. I'm not saying he should lose his job but he should apologize to his church for failing to be a good example.

Pump the brakes here. Money is not evil. Biblically, God blessed many men (making them rich) so that they would use that many to help those less fortunate.

WITH THAT SAID: flaunting the money can definitely be a problem. In some way, church leaders need to be able to identify with their members. If Jesus can leave being ruler of the universe and incarnate among us as a human being, born in poop, I'm sure Christian leaders should have no problem showing a little self control over their lifestyle (ie abstaining from a private jet).

In full disclosure, I just bought a king ranch on a really good deal and even in doing that, I feel a little guilty.

I looked him up and see they have Ruston campus. I have never heard of this church though from the time I went to school up there. I'm curious to where all this money is coming from because Temple Baptist is by far the biggest in that area.

Was South parkway church for the longest. That's probably what it was when you went to school here.

You shouldn't feel bad. You earned that truck as one can argue the pastor earned his riches. But only one of you professes to lead a church in the teachings of Christ.

I'm pretty sure we can all agree that Christ did not like encountering temple priests living high on the hog.

If you wanted to rip anyone from that screen shot it would be Bart for even bringing the money factor up. But again, it's being blown out of proportion.

Just like his claims of racism being worse than the 1960s is blown out of proportion? What makes him think racism is worse now? I doubt he even remembers the 60s well enough to speak out on the subject other than what some old man may have told him.

Not saying I'm a big fan of Olsteen, I don't follow him. But what if he tithes 25 % of his income? What if it's 12 to 15%? Is he still a sleaze ball? You don't know how much they're putting back in so why hammer them for it? How much do you tithe?
