The state's higher ed funding formula has no distinction for LSU being the flagship university.

would be for the Legislature to grant flagship status to La. Tech University.

Its probably the best and most valuable college in the state when it comes to producing jobs that stay in La.

LA Tech is bursting at the seams. They need significant dollars to upgrade a multitude of campus systems and facilities. Their new engineering building is awesome.
It actually would be nice for someone other than Mr Davison to pay for some upgrades.

Not exactly true. LSU has a higher cost reimbursement rate which was supposed to incentivize quality over quantity in undergraduate work and a focus on graduate studies and research. Beyond the formula, LSU enjoys a number of other policy advantages as the flagship ranging from program approvals to TOPS funding.

LA Tech is bursting at the seams.

I’m pretty sure Sammy is an LSU alum, too.

He is. Graduated in 92 I think. Was a couple of years ahead of me

He absolutely is, old row frat member and very much a supporter of The University. From knowing him, I would wager there is some use of hyperbole and this piece is coming from a place of deep frustration. And yes to whomever above said '92 - he was two years behind me.

Who cares what the buildings look like, if the roofs don’t leak, are absent mold, and can be heated and cooled they are superior to most of LSU .

Many who support the current direction of the university regard this as a feature, rather than an unfortunate unintended consequence, but my 4 children, who would have been fourth generation LSU graduates, will never step foot on that campus as students.
How can I send them and my money to an institution that openly regards them as irredeemably evil, and demands that they see themselves that way?
The long-term impact on our entire state is going to be catastrophic. You thought we had brain drain before?

Can you imagine what that school might have been if the state hadn't stupidly propped up NLU/ULM back in the day? The Monroe school became a 4-year university in 1950. It is 30 miles from Tech.
Instead of having one potential powerhouse school in N. La, the state got two middling ones.
It's not too late. Close ULM and pump those resources into Tech.

Perhaps if the LSU board had not hired a man whose entire academic career was focused on peddling the silly narrative that every white SOB on the planet was a racist, lawmakers wouldn’t give LSU the cold shoulder.

Somehow things always just seem to get worse at LSU. I don't know how they find new ways to dig the ditch deeper, but they do. We really peaked around 2011 (academically)

You obviously haven’t been on campus recently. Major improvements taking place. More needs to be done but huge strides are being made.

The irony of it all is the LSU people — those that hold high-paying jobs on the campus to do little or nothing — are simply dumbfounded
No. The irony is that those people will continue to get giant checks for doing nothing and the cuts will only frick over the students. There needs to be a formula where salaries are tied to real benchmarks like enrollment and academic and research achievements. You know. Like a real world business and not some public funded boondoggle.

LSU is a microcosm of what is happening all over the USA.
"Hey, this amazing thing. This thing that everyone else in the world dies to be a part of...let's change it."
That is LSU. All the things that made LSU what it is are being torn down with the thinking that it doesn't matter.
