Another one when are we going to take the gloves off and carpet bomb these frickers to the ground?
Yeah good idea let's just murder tens of thousands of women and children. That will surely solve our problems and have absolutely no blowback at all.

not only that

but the Japanese and Nazis had very centralized organizations and localized propaganda campaigns

they didn't have the internet to spread their ideas to the entire world

there is no central area to carpet bomb to eradicate radical Islam unless we somehow carpet bomb the internet

And we had camps for a lot of them. Are you suggesting internment camps? Serious question.

Also, props for putting "Japan" in quotes. Not sure what the implied joke is, but it's got me scratching my head.

And you think comparing the Japanese to ISIS is a valid comparison?

there are undoubtedly areas of high concentration of radicalized Muslims that could be bombed. No one is implying you just drop a couple of bombs and ISIS is gone.

Quote from a WWII veteran
"The hell you can't. Because we did it. These Muslims are no different than the [Imperial] Japanese. The Japs had their suicide bombers too. And we stopped them. What it takes is the resolve and will to use a level of brutality and violence that your generations can't stomach. And until you can, this shite won't stop. It took us on the beaches with bullets, clearing out caves with flame throwers, and men like LeMay burning down their cities killing people by the tens of thousands. And then it took 2 atom bombs on top of it. But if that was what it took to win we were willing to do it. Until you are willing to do the same...well I hope you enjoy this shite, because it ain't going to stop."

Quote from a WWII veteran overhearing someone say that `You can't bomb an ideology."

We didn't carpet bomb the cities in non-Japanese territories that Japan occupied, we carpet bombed Japanese cities. Japan was a nation that had existed for thousands of years in one region. But ISIS is a group that has existed for a little over a decade, and has only recently conquered a swath of territory. The cities it occupies are not constituted of ISIS citizens, they are constituted by both sympathizers and oppressed peoples who have no choice but to stay put, and could only leave with great difficulty and at risk of horrific execution.

It's apples and oranges.

Exactly. They may not be gone after that, but it sure as shite will make more headway than turning a blind eye and letting these things continue to happen. In this case, ignoring the bully won't make them get bored and stop. You need to level a few hotbeds and put the ball back in their court. Rinse and repeat until they just stop and go back to their hookah bar meetings where they just talk about how crappy everyone else is, instead of strapping on vests, getting behind the wheel of commercial vehicles, cutting people's heads off, etc.

They murder and rape women who they deem to be non-Muslims, yes. I'm sure that many of those women do have deathwishes, but I'm sure many would prefer to be liberated, and they will be. It's a matter of time--Iraq has gotten its shite together and is recapturing their cities one by one. The predominantly Kurdish SDF/YPG in Syria is capturing lots of territory from ISIS in the northern region of Syria. In fact, they've nearly cut off ISIS from the Turkish border, which is where the recruits are flowing into ISIS territory. ISIS is still formidable, but they're losing in Syria.

Good grief, no one is turning a blind eye. Are you not paying attention? We're supporting our allies on the ground in Syria and Iraq against ISIS. We just dropped our 50,000th bomb on ISIS in the past week. We have special operations forces on the ground with our allies, the most important of which are the SDF/YPG in Syria, the Kurdish Peshmerga in Iraq, and the Iraqi military.

The strategy we're using is working, and more importantly, we're achieving our strategic goals without being viewed as occupiers, which is exactly what spawned ISIS in the first place. ISIS exists because of the reaction to our invasion and occupation of Iraq, combined with the ideology of radical Islamists in the region.

We need to empower our allies on the ground to defeat ISIS. We can't do it for them--it won't solve the problem.

they are obviously extraordinarily different but there are similarities.

Before WW2, Japan replaced Buddhism with emperor-based ideology. Japanese patriotism was demanded and the people were expected to die for the emperor if need be. This is different, but I do think it's similar to how radicalized Muslims view their Allah; only the emperor was an actual person.

Also, the Japanese quite literally had a “Kill all, burn all, destroy all.” mentality when it came to the Chinese, and they slaughtered as many of them as they could. Women and children were sodomized, prisoners of war were guaranteed to be murdered, etc. Pretty similar in terms of brutality if you ask me.

Another point would be the kamikaze pilots and how that compares to suicide bombers.

you can call the ideas similar, but you can't compare the tactics in fighting the ideas to modern day

Yeah just let them continue to do what they are doing. History tells us that appeasement does not work and if you think you can round up these frickers and sing Kumbaya you are surely mistaken. I live in Germany and taking these "refugees" in was a mistake they want a caliphate and you are stupid if you do not think this is the case. A message needs to be sent loud and clear pull the gloves off and stop fricking around.
