Saturday night I’m riding in Endymion and my float is approaching Bourbon and Canal, so I take my phone out to video the massive sea of people.
After the short video I place my phone on the ledge to the side of me and continue throwing. Five minutes goes by and I notice my phone is gone. I’m looking all over the floor of float with no luck. Thinking it could be anywhere, under bags or trash, I grab my friend’s phone to call it, thinking maybe I’ll see it light up.
After a few rings a women answers, identifies herself as NOPD and tells me she has my phone.
She thinks I’m in the crowd, but I keep telling her I’m on float 20. She says float 28 is passing her and says she’ll see if she can get it to me at some point.
To my surprise, she runs down my float and hands it to me on Poydras and St. Charles, which is like a quarter of a mile. How she saw it on the ground, with all the trash, in the dark is amazing.

Bonus : She was a pretty cute cop too. OT 6, uniform probably bumps her to OT7. I’ve made numerous calls to friends on the Department trying to find her and thank her. (pics if I find her)
She didn’t need to do all that.

Anyway I thought it was a crazy, lucky story I would share.

Make this your mission to find her. Your reputation is on the line.

So you're wanting to repay this wonderful act of kindness by posting her pics online without her consent?

Went to Wally world to buy a few things, call my wife to see if we needed anything in the produce area. Leave and come home and lo and behold, no phone. Call my phone, no answer and no ring anywhere around the house. Go back to Wally and ask the cashier in the garden area if I had left my phone and she says she didn't see it and go to customer service and see if anybody turned it in. Did and no luck. Come back home and call my phone again and a lady answers it. I asked who is this? She says her first name and she is in the produce area and heard my phone ring in the asparagus. We laugh and I ask her to take it to customer service, and she did. CSB

Not exactly the way I was looking at it. If she has social media, then her pics are already online. Posting a pic to share how cute she is was going to be compliment.
But fine, you ruined it for everyone.

You got lucky and she was a good person.

Instead of cyberstalking her so that the OT can say how ugly she is, why don't you write a letter to the editor of both major New Orleans newspapers describing the situation and thanking the NOPD for their expertise in crowd control under difficult circumstances and the extra effort that this officer put forth to help you.

Dont worry. Theyll wash her out of the department in a few weeks. Louisiana doesnt tolerate good cops.

Thats the goal.
I would really like to write her a thank you and maybe include a gift card.
She deserves it, not only for what she did, but dealing with Mardi Gras on any department in New Orleans is miserable.

Not a bad idea.

I work along side them enough to know how much I appreciate them, but the story deserves to be shared.
I don’t have Facebook, so I figured I’d share it here with people that would appreciate it.

I second the newspaper suggestion. More of these stories need to be proactively shared with the public.

I shared it.
I also emailed it to the NOPD, thanking her and the department for their service.

don't go the newspaper route. All the SJWs and Mitch Frickin Landrieu will attack you for the invasion of the public's privacy when you openly admitted to filming them from the float. Despite it being completely legal, you will open yourself and the krewe up to months of social media and political grief. It's the #meToo world we live in today.

I'm only partially joking.
