NOPD bodycam of shootout with armed robbery suspect in the Treme

So, let me get this straight, this dude is an illegal alien who committed immigration fraud and they gave him TIME SERVED and let him stay in the US? What the hell?
Seriously? frick this guys family. He is a criminal who just tried to kill a police officer. When does the pandering stop?

Article is a good read. NOPD actually did an investigation, found the robber and the stolen items. I guess this officer didn't get the memo that it is better to not respond to the scene and just tell people to make a report online. For his hard work, he almost gets killed.

Yeah, that's not great, but a quick adrenaline dump and having to move because you have zero cover/concealment can cause that. He had a pretty decent reload, though.

He's still in jail for shooting at the cop, bail hasn't been set.
FWIW he plead guilty to the fraud charges and spent 4-5 months in jail (from Sep 2020 to Feb 2021). The fact that he is still a criminal in New Orleans a yr later - I guess you can chalk that up to it being a sanctuary city?

Regardless of what we think about the charges and the fact that he's still in the US; I find this very interesting. Feds using this as a method to keep him in jail because they have no faith the DA will do the right thing?
