The Coast Guard confirmed a vessel has collided with a pier near Nashville Wharf along the Mississippi River around noon Thursday (April 12).

A visible sheen filled the water near French Quarter Fest.

The vessel leaked diesel fuel into the water, said Petty Officer Third Class Brand Giles of the Coast Guard. It was unknown how much fuel had been spilled or if the leak had been contained.

The RTA stopped ferry service between Algiers and Canal Street, saying the Coast Guard had shut down the river.

Pics are from the article but the spill can be seen easily from my office view downtown. Supposedly there is also an odor. Happy French Quarter Fest Ya'll.

The river is still seriously running if that happened about noon, and it's already passing the Quarter/Algiers Point.

Joanne Crawford, a first-time visitor to New Orleans from California who came for French Quarter Fest, stood at the river watching the oil slide by.

"It's a lot," she said. "We're not getting on the water."

Man. How are all the neckbeards gonna get from Algiers Point to the French Quarter Fest?

Tell the hippies to be sure they don't throw their lit cigs and joints into the river.

i legit loled.

it's so messed up when i see these articles. my heart breaks for all the wildlife and the people whose jobs will be affected. it runs right out into the gulf too. hopefully, it's dealt with as quickly and effectively as possible. i don't even know how you go about getting that out of the water.

I would give up this river view in a hearbeat for an office not located downtown haha. Just saying it's easy AF to see, if you can see the river.

I'm sorry but a little diesel fuel would be the least of my worries coming out of that river.
