My brother is a member at MCC, and he hosts a family dinner during the holidays. It is a very enjoyable and pleasant experience. The members connect with the staff, wait staff, etc. on a personal level. I don't see it as snooty but rather majestic. People want to have a nice place to relax and have more privacy than going to a restaurant in the warehouse district.

Its a community with like minded people for the most part. My father used to tell me that he placed me halfway up on a ladder representing society. I can either go down or go up, but I was going to choose that path. He made a good point that stuck with me.

Without googling, I’m guessing it’s the initiation fee. In most places I live that can be pricey.

My family was at LCC from its beginnings. I still have LCC paperwork and membership directories.

The people who can’t actually afford country clubs, join them. The people who can’t actually afford them, don’t want to socialize with the first group.

When I was growing up my family belonged to a country club- not one mentioned in this thread. In college I got a job lifeguarding at the same club. You get a whole different perspective as an employee. Some people were great. Others never missed an opportunity to be a horse's arse to the "help."

NOLA is where the people with real money are MCC has money, but not nearly as much as they’d like you to think they have.

What’s the initiation fee and waiting list like at these clubs?

I don’t see it as snooty either. I’m in and out of MCC and NOCC about five or six times per year because I have friends there. When I said they can avoid “undesirable” people I meant what you said, that it’s a community of like-minded people.

Ehhh…MCC probably has more Rex members than Endymion. Hermes is probably a better analog for MCC. But NOCC is definitely Comus/Achaeans et al

Metairie finally put a fence up, which was smart. Both clubs are financially strong, MCC is a very desirable club and have many people wanting to join. Don’t know their membership structure, but it has gone from years ago membership drives to selective. It is a member owned club, as opposed to a stockholder’s club, which NOCC is.

We used to be members there. Love the place and the bar there.
My only complaint was that they only had two tennis courts.
Fourth of July was certainly a great time.

My dad gave up his shares about 30 years ago.

They allowed him to keep using the facilities until he couldn't.
