Yes. When Bush came to BR for a fundraiser off Highland Rd. every exit was closed until he was clearly gone, helicopters followed him down the interstate and NO ONE was driving on the interstate while he made his way.

Traffic will be a nightmare in New Orleans!!
Flights will be fricked up too! If you wonder why you keep circling around MSY and your plane doesn't land-thank Obama!!

any more info on this? Still haven't seen anything mentioned on any other sites about closing the interstate.

He doesn't give a shite about the entire population of this country, you really think he cares about a few thousand on the interstate.

When does Obama give his speech on how Bush used a hurricane machine to send Katrina to NOLA to get rid of all the black democrats?

It's sad that this regime thinks that the lower 9th ward was the only area hit by Katrina. No one ever visits St. Bernard, Nola East, Gentilly, Pontchartrain Park or Lakeview. I hate that people continue to focus on the area where people didn't come back instead of areas where they did return and rebuild.

would make a lot more sense.... if he were flying into MSY then I'd think they would get him a helicopter from there to 9th Ward.

In the past, they've always flown into MSY.

Yes and no. Flying into Armstrong allows them to use the Interstate, which is already a limited access roadway. I think, for security purposes, the secret service would much rather a presidential motorcade on an interstate versus surface streets and highways. Plus, he wouldn't have to go over the CCC.

And that's exactly why they go there. It's a total political move that pretty much any politician is going to make. "Look at how deserted and desolate this area is....but I'm here because I care!"

The president will spend most of the day in the Ninth Ward and is scheduled to leave the city around 5:30 p.m. For those commuting home, the interstate from the Ninth Ward to the airport will likely be shut down from approximately 5:15 to 5:35 p.m.

Great timing there Prez

would of made much more sense for him to take the 610 and then route all other traffic on the I-10 so at least there would be a way for people to leave the CBD.

I have a hard time believing they could close the interstate for that short of a length of time. Like someone said earlier, it would take that long just to clear it.

When they closed I-10 in BR from the airport to highland road they just stopped allowing people use the on ramps. It cleared pretty quickly but was closed for hours. Serious pain in the arse

Never mind the Mississippi Gulf Coast, which took an even worse beating from the storm itself. No political capital in that, I guess.

I'm at MSY in Kenner and I see an Air Force globemaster and a whole squad of black cars and bike cops across the airport. He's definitely using MSY.

Edit: state police helicopter too.
