The generational wealth involved with Comus, those people live in NYC and Switzerland and “live” in New Orleans ie have a house in Audubon Place they use occasionally.

A few years back the Queen of Carnival was from Virginia. Had never lived here. I can't really comment on the names shite.

and is the irony lost that the once most hated woman in NO. Dorothy Mae Taylor is largely forgotten and yet still would have been a significantly better Mayor than the last 4

One nephew was a Page in Comus and Proteus. He's a IV. His younger brother was a Page in Rex.

Correct. Julie Lea had been doing shady shite for a while and digging her heels in on the ALM/BLM matter was the last straw for most of the riders.
The funny thing is that they were complaining about her doing shady stuff with their money, but their membership numbers were still through the roof. It wasn't until the "All Lives Matter" post which included a pic of a white and black child that the members acted like she did the unthinkable.
Even though she likely was doing shady stuff with the money, I think it's funny that she is still has a parade and continues to piss off those who acted like the "All Lives Matter" post was the most terrible thing ever. Stealing money (which they claim she was doing) seems much worse to me.

The guy says "Nyx used to be big now they have only 200 members because of their stupid racist captain, everyone will leave when that parade starts we're here for Druids"
Said no one ever, and I rode in Druids.
The crowds on Magazine were lighter than I expected considering the return of the route after last year but I seriously doubt it had anything to do with Nyx. The rest of the route was fine. You’d have to remember back when Nyx wasn’t a 3400 member Krewe to judge it accurately.
I don’t agree with the cancel culture going after her for the ALM comment but there were many more things that had pissed off the membership prior to that and the ALM comment just came as a convenient excuse to quit for many. Let’s face it, if you grow exponentially like Nyx did, you really weren’t a Krewe in the sense of cohesion and family but just a hodgepodge of different groups parading under 1 name. I’d bet money that 2500 of the 3400 members in Nyx don’t even ride any more. They had their taste of parading and are done.
I read JP Morrell’s comments on implementing and enforcing standards for Krewes to get permits. That’s a whole lot of subjectiveness so it’s a real slippery slope. Who’s going to determine who or what meets the standards? I can see race easily being injected in the decision making. Do you really think they would cancel one of the shittiest parades ever to roll? (And if you don’t realize I’m talking about ZULU then you haven’t seen it sober). How about another fabulous one, Oshun? Or one that celebrates 1st responders, Legion of Mars - which should have never been a stand alone parade but kept its place as a sub-Krewe with Alla.
I can easily see a parade like Nyx checking all of the requirement boxes and still being denied a permit because, well, that’s what cancel culture does. If it happens all of the the other Krewes, and especially the satirical ones that make fun of politicians (I’m looking at you Chaos and d’Etat!) better be careful in the future. And we will all be the worse for it.

he All Lives Matter thing was kind of the straw that broke the camel's back. The people I knew who rode got more and more disgusted each year with the way it was run and they hated the captain. Funny thing is that at its height Nyx was the most diverse parade in the city.
I think the fall of Nyx was more due to her shady activities going on with the funds. I had family that rode in Nyx. The left a few years ago and now ride in Orpheus

I still don't get what's wrong with All Lives Matter. Other than they don't.
BLM was one of the biggest sociopolitical frauds committed against our country and they weren’t tolerating any “competing” viewpoints, which they considered ALM as, as fricking stupid as that is, and all the little POS enablers and kneelers gleefully cackled in agreement.

Then the lady with him said "it was the all lives matter controversy" which sparked my memory. Crazy how something so small could have such a reaction.
Well, that and the Lee circle stuff, and the embezzling money thing and…
She was constant bad headlines for a stretch there. That’s even ignoring the running someone over last time they were big. Which I don’t count as a unique thing for them but surely effected some riders desire to return.

Nyx was already hemorrhaging all its quality members for a few years before this. It’s one of the reasons Iris flipped from all Old Uptown women to a huge younger women parade. Evening Cleopatra (which has been great the last two years) was growing.

Yea, whatever you think morally, her financial issues should make anyone think twice about sending her money.

This isn’t accurate. Iris’ growth spurt had started well before Nyx had their problems, so no, it’s not a reason. Credit Iris’ growth to a change in leadership at captain with granddaughter Kristen (in her 30s at the time, 2012 I believe) taking over from her grandmother, Joy (old). As you pointed out many of the all-female Krewes have seen a resurgence in popularity. You may argue that Muses spurred this and you wouldn’t be wrong, IMO.

Muses certainly started it IMO. The biggest beneficiary has been cleopatra. That parade has blown up and is a really good parade now.
I ride in carrolton on first Sunday and it seems like every year us and King Arthur are delayed by some bullshite in femme fatale. I know it won’t happen but I’d love to see that one lose a permit.

Yes, I agree, the captain change was the catalyst. My point wasn't cause and effect, but rather that Nyx was losing its quality members before the bottom fell out a couple of years ago.
I also know at least 20 women that rode in Nyx because Muses was full (agree Muses spurred that movement) and then all flipped to Iris in the last couple of years before Covid.
