If you read the article, they want to reserve a large block for teachers & first responders

Nashville is busting at the seams and affordable housing at its closest is 35 min away. Nola is a fricking joke.

HUD won't finance a project unless there are provisions for affordable housing. So they have to include some below market rates at least for a while.
False
Also, it was a HUD mortgage insurance program (not direct financing, not section 8) that made South Market District become a reality.

I just heard they’re building a massive complex of affordable housing right in front of English turn. Unreal
In a way I feel sorry for the property owners there, but it's been 14 years of Landrieu and Teedy. With the recent demand and property values near all time highs, if you live in Orleans you've had ample time to sell and move (and likely at a profit). It's on them now.

All the crime in the French Quarter coming over from the former housing projects has taught them nothing about what happens when you put low income housing right next to your biggest tourism draws.

I would think Cypress (Dallas based partner) and the real money behind this development (plans are spectacular) have to be having 2nd thoughts.
A multi-billion dollar development with the economy in recession in a city with less than 800 working police offers is a bad investment to start.
NOLA forcing a 2022 version of the Desire Projects in the middle of the site should be a deal killer.
If you ever wonder why Dallas and Texas infrastructure looks the way it does and NOLA looks the way it does look no further than this story.

City is better than ever. Can't wait to visit again.
I really wish there was some appreciable drop in tourism, to see Teedy's arse run out on a rail.

They’ve taken over all aspects of life. This country is toast

With all the bullshite teachers and their unions pulled during the “pandemic” they can all frick off and find their own market rate housing like the rest of us.
Firefighters sit around all day and play grab arse. Police don’t respond to any calls. I’m willing to throw EMT’s and the like a bone.
That being said, Now the project will be delayed for god knows how long due to “not enough affordability” which means all the people that desperately need that housing will have to wait longer. Great job

Is this their recruitment plan? Come get robbed at your house and be treated like shite at your work?

are there ever any urban development projects that don't involve this payoff getting made?

The whole reason we picked this consortium was equity and inclusion, so it really is important that we get this right," said Camille Whitworth, one of the center's 13 board members.
There is simply nothing that progs won’t frick up with their equity and inclusion. It’s all just code for “no white people” anyway.

Meanwhile, half of the damn tent population in the city lives 1 block away under the Tchoupitoulas offramp.

Yall still out here trying to make New Orleans and Baton Rouge happen...
Its over. Just try to survive until you've carved out an 'escape pod' and run. There's no saving it. You know how both cities' mayors and police chiefs are shite? I got bad news for you dudes... The next ones are gonna be worse.
It's time. Plan your escape. Run.
