Blacks do not commit more crimes than others races.

Sure, by numbers if 500 crimes were committed it would be a pretty even split across the country based solely on numbers. The problem is when you break that number down based on population. If a group with 3MM commit 200 crimes and a group of 500k commit 200 crimes, that is when you have a problem.

But that doesn't prove anything. Just ask verysmartbrothas.com

I think people have trouble coming to grips with it because they think that admitting that blacks commit more crime means that there is something inherently wrong with black people which makes them inferior to non-blacks, and that's just not true

Exactly. People can admit that poor people are more likely to commit crime. People can admit that poor people are more likely to be black. People have a hard time putting two and two together.

Also,

quote:

The NOPD data show that of the 2,346 instances when drugs, weapons or other contraband was found during searches in 2015, 81 percent involved African-Americans and 17 percent involved white people. However, black people were more likely to be searched and white people less likely.

As stated above, African Americans were involved in 77 percent of all searches white people in 20 percent of searches and Hispanics in 3 percent of searches.

Among those found with contraband, black people were slightly more likely than people other races to be carrying an illegal weapon, as opposed to other types of contraband.

So black people made up 77% of total searches and 81% of searches where contraband was actually found. White people made up 20% of total searches and 17% of searches where contraband was found. That would suggest, at a minimum, the representation of total searches are fair. If anything, you could argue white people are searched too much.

bullshite like this is coming to Baton Rouge with the quickness so get ready.

DoJ is just wrapping up with Baltimore and the same will happen here as it did in Ferguson. DoJ finds not a damn thing wrong with the police shooting and officers aren't charged or are acquitted.

DoJ needs to be seen doing "something" so they work up some statistics in their favor and then blackmail the Police Department into doing their bidding under threat of being sued in federal court. Let's not forget that the people making up rules for the Police have never ever, even for a day, been a police officer. That doesn't stop them.

They force a bunch of arbitrary rules down the Police Department's throat. Cops stop policing and being pro-active. Shootings by police and use of force complaints go down (because the police aren't interacting with criminals) but crime soars. DoJ holds a press conference and talks about the improved stats on police use of force and they leave town. Citizens and the Police Department are left with out of control crime.

What percentage of the police force in NOLA is black?

Edit: Ok 57% is black.

This story is only a story for a moron. The numbers seem to make sense to me. I would have expected the numbers to be more skewed honestly.

The racial makeup of NOPD's force somewhat reflects the community's: 57 percent of officers were black in 2015, compared to 59 percent of the population; and 38 percent were white, compared to 30 percent of the population. The remaining 3 percent of officers were Hispanic or Asian. Black officers completed 58 percent of the total field interview cards, and white officers completed 38 percent.

I am not at all a racist person. I have stated this several times on here, but I am a stats guy. And you can't argue with the numbers. When a certain race is responsible for the majority of the crimes then it only makes sense that that race will get stopped more.

White people commit more crimes than you see in the numbers, but its white collar type crimes that isn't shown in these numbers. Its just the way it is. I don't know why people should get upset.

Criminologist Peter Scharf, a professor with the LSU School of Public Health, said the data can shed some light on, but does not conclusively answer, a difficult question about policing facing many communities and the apparent racial disparity among NOPD stops: "What part of it is police responding to reality, and what part of it is over-expectation of wrongdoing by African Americans by the police?"

The "somewhat" is outrageous. That racial breakdown does reflect the community, full stop, and they're only throwing in that weasel word because they don't like admitting it; it's an inconvenient fact for their narrative.

Small minded people get upset about it. Others use the numbers as a weapon for their stupid arguments and excuses for community problems that should be dealt with honestly.

That information would only somewhat reflect reality. Did you even pay attention to the journalist?

grippa is right. the only non-emotional argument is based in numbers/statistics.

what people need to realize is that police are REACTIONARY. they do not (or very rarely) make arrests proactively. Meaning, if no one calls the cops, or if no crime is reported, no one gets arrested. so "targeting" is going to be a serious minority of the cases. I only say that because you can never say never.

You can claim racism all day long, but if no one calls in a crime to the cops, chances are that the cops are not going to show up and randomly arrest a bunch of black people.

• African-Americans represented 68 percent of those stopped by New Orleans police in 2015, more than their 59 percent share of the the city's population in Census estimates. White people made up 29 percent of those stopped by police last year, slightly less than their 31 percent population ratio. Hispanics were also slightly underrepresented, making up 3 percent of those stopped by police but more than 5 percent of the city's population.

Traffic Stops
AA - 68%
White - 29%
Hispanic - 3%
Total = 100%

So you're telling me that not 1 asian was stopped?!?!?!

Someone else said it. Poor people commit crimes at a much higher rate. Poor white people generally live in the country, poor black people live in cities. It's not racism, it's just reality.

Instead of bitching and moaning about privilege and racism, we could work on stamping out illiteracy, ignorance, and in turn poverty. That shite won't make any politicians or "community leaders" money so frick that. Right?
