I didn't know they had athletic programs.

SUNO fielded men's & women's basketball, women's volleyball, & men's & women's track & field

they're NAIA... and in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference

their conference foes included Xavier (NOLA) & Dillard

they're common opponent for all the other Louisiana NAIA schools who aren't in their conference (Loyola NOLA, LSU Alexandria, LSU Shreveport)

they claim 8 national championships... I'm sure most are NAIA track & field titles

It's called Tulane.

Actually every public institution outside of HBCUs is a "historically white institution".

Remember "historically black" isnt the same as "exclusively black".

That said, SUNO has always performed well under even the other HBCUs. I'm okay with Southern downsizing to just one university. In before you say "no University".

SUNO just built 3 brand new buildings within the last 5 years. All of them usually have nobody in them.

They get under qualified students to enroll, backed by government funded student loans, and the school doesn’t care if they graduate once the school receives the loan funds.

This is what happens when you don’t care about the product you produce. When you are guaranteed income without results. This is what happens

Knoxville College. This is just plain old criminal theft of the taxpayers.

There's a few respectable ones out there.

The HBCU tradition in Atlanta is pretty damn strong.

And Howard is still the Harvard of the HBCUs.

Never heard of a satellite school of an HBCU like SUNO is to SU. Never hear of SUNO before either. How many full time students?

HBCUs are still important. No PVA&M, no Megan Thee Stallion. And that would make the world a much sadder place.

Also the quad at Florida A&M is stacked. Significantly better than the talent at FSU, no joke. Makes me wish I was back in school again.

SUNO should have shut down after Katrina...that being said, it still needs to be shut down and facilities turned over to Delgado...

It's a private school...

And if by theft you mean wasted student loans not getting repaid... well to me more of the blame goes to the fedgov for being in the student loan game in the first place.

There are still some really good HBCUs out there. But SUNO might be the worst in the country.

Maybe UNO could take over their social work school, shut everything else down, and give the campus to Delgado and move on. There is simply no place for a 2,000 public university here, especially when they are so terrible.

No need for historically white public university tags. Anything that's not an HBCU is a historically white university.

Should have merged with UNO during Jindal administration, but nope. Some parties didn’t want that.

As I recall it they had a stash of cash from Katrina damage and they didn't want to lose control of that. Am I remembering correctly?

wouldn't it make much more sense to make some sort of deal with Xavier University of New Orleans to provide tuition subsidies for Louisiana students?

at least you know if they graduate from Xavier, they DO have a good education!!!

yall remember this gem!

Did I hear right? Southern University @ N.O has a 5% graduation rate?
quote:

quote:
quote:
Xavier produces more Black physicians than any university in America. They have a 70% graduation rate.

A quick google search shows you are off here. 4 yr graduation rate is 31%, 6 yr is 44%.

quote:
4 Year graduation rate: 70%
5 Year graduation rate: 78%
6 Year graduation rate: 79%

Stats on Xavier.edu
