NOLA - Audubon zoo, aquarium, or insectarium?

Looking for something to do with my five year old the last week of March while in New Orleans.
Which of the three would you recommend? We have done the zoo before if it matters.

The aquarium is nice and while there you can take in the I-Max feature in the same building/area. I think a kid of that age would enjoy the aquarium more than the insectarium.
But, you can't go wrong with the zoo either, especially for kids that age hitting the petting zoo area of it to get some hands on some of the tamer animals.

Aquarium and the river walk to get some fudge.

Zoo is easily the best, but the other are better if the weather is hot or raining. Late March, the temp should be bearable.
In my experience (ie my kids), outside is always the better option until the weather makes it not.
That said, the Insectarium was a lot better than I was expecting. Newer facilities than the aquarium, but the aquarium has freakin' sharks.

Zoo is the best to the average visitor, but you can do the aquarium and walk to the insectarium. The insectarium is very underrated.
We have some awesome fish at the aquarium if youre a somewhat enthusiast

Zoo is easiest to park at, my daughter likes it the most out of the 3.

I'm an adult and I usually find a way to hit all three if I'm in town for a week or two.

That’s what I’ve been reading. My son is super nerdy and into all things science, so he might love it.

I’m usually let down by aquariums. Expensive and smaller than I’d expect. But I hear the one in New Orleans is great and the proximity to the river walk is enticing.

Audubon
aquarium
insectarium <--- 5 year olds love this place
In that order, watch the selfies close to the cages.

That's the plus, but it gets minus points for lack of parking. Those lots are priced pretty silly down in the CBD.

I haven’t been to the aquarium since it opened 30 yrs ago, and i’ve never been to the insecterium.. but the zoo is world-class, one of the top attractions in NOLA that doesn’t get the love it should IMO.

The zoo with the Lion exhibit construction is a pain. You can do both the Aquarium and Insectarium on the same day. Both are a lot of fun.

Went to the zoo yesterday and it's great, but I like the Aquarium more. However, I think all 3 are fantastic and you can't go wrong

Are you in NOLA often? If so, consider a membership.
We are just up in MS, so we take our 3 year old down to NOLA a good bit. Our last trip we went to one each day (Aquarium, zoo, insectarium, zoo again). Our membership paid for itself that trip, and since then we have been to all 3 multiple times using the membership. Bonus: if you have an hour to kill while uptown, go to the zoo. Since the membership is a "sunk cost" you don't have to justify spending hours there like you would if you spent $25 on a ticket. Walk in and walk out.
Aquarium is my favorite, but all 3 are great.

I LOVE the zoo, but we went a few weeks ago and it was looking kind of rough. The Aztec water things weren’t working, and the water in them was smelly and gross, and they were cleaning the tiger cage at 11am on a Saturday, so no tiger, and the lion habitat is kind of in a million pieces, and the whole place needs a paint job. that being said, we still had a lot of fun with the parts that were open!

Yeah, it's come a long way in my lifetime. I remember going there as a kid and hated that those big cats were in such small cages and all they did most days was just lay around looking bored.
Check out the movie "Cat People" from 82 with Nastassja Kinski for a look at the "old" zoo.
It really was deplorable conditions for many of the animals on display.
It is so much better now with the animals having far more room to roam and feel somewhat free.

Not surprising since it is still being built.

The Zoo and Aquarium are both very good. Both of them have some exhibits that are showing their age, as well as some new ones.
they have combo tickets as well if you want to do more than one.
They used to have a boat cruise that would take you from the zoo to the aquarium, with lunch. But that ain't there no more. 5 year old would have loved that.

I didnt say otherwise, and that doesn’t make it any easier to get around.

Look into going to City Park as well. Pretty neat little amusement park, storyland, paddle boat and bike rentals, and a nice 36 hole mini golf course.
There is also a good place there for coffee and beignets near a playground.
A very nice Children’s Museum will be opening soon as well
