You’ve evaded addressing the question though: what’s the lesson?

I don't believe it will be found. Surely people would have repurposed that wood.

What lesson does it teach if it is real?

That an all powerful God can wipe us out?

How would a fake story teach that?

Are you trying to say there wasn't a global flooding event due to ice melt despite widespread evidence while calling other people dumb?

The flood was from the outer ring of water falling down onto the earth. Also why people stopped living for hundreds of years because they lost the protection from the sun.

This is a fascinating post. I’d like you to elaborate on how it being fake makes the story less impactful.

I wonder how long it'll take you to realize that archaeological discoveries are regularly providing evidence that biblical stories are in fact historical events.

There is no evidence that the entire planet was flooded. Zero.

It's funny how threads like this trigger atheists so much. They can't help but comment

One can be a believer and not take all of the Noah story literally.

Have they found the old lady’s diamond from the Titanic? Would be a lot cooler if they did.

The myth of Noah's Ark

There’s plenty of evidence of a huge widespread flood in the area between the black, red, and caspian seas and the Persian gulf in the relevant timeframe. Probably a result of rapid flooding of the Mediterranean

The notion that it was done by god to cleanse the earth or that some guy built a big boat and put two of each animal on it is clearly a parable though. It’s also silly to think the entire earth was flooded. That’s not how any of this works. Doesn’t detract from the lesson of the story to acknowledge that it’s not a literal account of events.

Good lord people, I'm still shocked that any rational, thinking person with an IQ over 100 could actually believe that
tell me how the universe we are in began in your opinion. I want to get a good idea of what you consider wild and irrational

At some point everyone is going to have to believe something irrational and beyond human comprehension

I’m not sure asking anyone to answer quite possibly the most unknown question in history is getting the point across that you think it is

You mean Jewish context.

You mean Babylonian. The flood itself was almost certainly a historic event, but 'flood tales' first appeared 6,000 years before it appeared in Jewish text.

quote:

In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Utnapishtim tells the story of how he survived a great flood sent by the gods to destroy humanity. The gods, angered by the noise and chaos of mankind, decided to wipe out all life. However, the god Ea secretly warned Utnapishtim and instructed him to build a massive boat to preserve himself, his family, and a sampling of animals and craftsmen. Utnapishtim obeyed, and when the floodwaters came, they engulfed the earth for seven days and nights. Eventually, the waters receded, and the boat came to rest on a mountain. To determine if the land was dry, Utnapishtim released a dove, a swallow, and finally a raven, which did not return-signaling that the flood had ended.
