Creative writing is not the same thing as a "self-designed" major. A true college course of study will have a certified program with a list of courses you have to take that was carefully put together by the university, and taught by experts in the subject. It's impossible to have that in place for a major the student just invented, but you're giving them a university degree anyway, ergo devaluing the other degrees coming from that university.

So it is:
polyamorous=doesn't believe in a single partner
atheist=doesn't believe in god yet writes an article about how science, in particular, biology can not define a male vs. a female
non-binary trans woman=which means she doesn't adhere to masculinity or feminism yet identifies as a woman and writes exclusively about feminism (as opposed to masculinity)
This is what mental illness looks like. She/he is a completely confused person, who's mind does not operate like that of someone who's mental status is functional. All in the name of what?

Yes. Riley actually has a video out saying that if you don't like a trans woman because she is trans, you are being discriminatory and narrow-minded.

Many honors programs have a type of self-designed program. However, they usually fall within a broader category and are really more of a concentration that is very specific to the student's interests. It's just easier to say you majored in your concentration area rather than try and explain that you have an English literature degree with a concentration in whatever.
