Technically true but Chicago posts the eye popping numbers since it has high violent crime and is one of the largest cities. NYC (at least until very recently) and LA have done a much better job in reducing shootings and homicides.
When I was growing all the stats and discussion were about “south central”, now it’s Chicago and deservedly so.

There are about 15 cities that have higher murder rates in the US. Louisiana has 3 in the top 10.
