No clue how our ancestors slept in these conditions. This is pretty damn miserable. God bless the man that invented the AC

Understand

Hopefully they get everyone restored sooner than later

Can you open a window & try to catch a breeze?

I’m in your boat. I sleep during the day when the temps push 100+ inside so I really haven’t slept since I was stationed at the hospital on Monday. Finally just woke up after a couple of hours and I was so sweaty it looked like I just got out of the shower

- Ancestors designed houses for air flow.

- Front porches

We are not tough anymore. We put too much stock in comfort, but that comes with technological advances.

You wouldn't win Survivor. 83 isn't even that terrible. I'm sure the humidity is tho. I'd still open a window with a screen

You have heavy blankets? Open your windows at night, and then in the morning cover with heavy blankets to insulate it against the heat. Or go old school and break out the tin foil.

homes weren’t designed to be be completely insulated like today. They often had basements or high ceilings on the bottom floor with strategically placed ceiling fans and transom windows to move hot air.

Also full willow oaks, magnolias, crape myrtles on the east and west side of homes.

Your DSDL McMansion spec neighborhood home was never designed to go without your 40A breaker working over time keeping your AC kicking

Of the thermostat… I’m in the same boat as the OP and I’ve reached the point right now where I’d sleep with a cave troll if she has working AC.
